Several years back after the Prodrive 550 LM did so well at Le Mans, there was a plan to build a 550 LM street car w/carbon fiber body panels, etc. etc.

Anyone know if that was ever done?....big article in Evo several years back about it. I'll have to dig it up, but figure someone here would know if example were ever made.

Note: It was not made by Prodrive as they had started their Aston relationship and were not longer doing anything w/Ferrari.

    Thanks.

I don't think the 550LM street cars ever happened. Too bad as I think they looked amazing. The guy out of Nevada who was going to build some CF bits didn't look like that materialized either. Ryalex Designs???? Anyway, the 550/575 is one heavy beast so it'd be cool if there was a Jenny Craig program for it. I figure if you knocked +400 lbs of weight off it the performance figures would be quite impressive. Anyone ever see anything re: lightweight 550? Wouldn't even need to mess with the engine, just slim it down....wonder if it could ever get to 3200 lbs????

It looks like that website has not been updated since before the launch of this car (if indeed it was ever launched)... The stocklist shows a 360 Spider at GBP105,000 and a "new" DB9 from October 2004...

So, I wonder if there was every any of these cars built at all. Can anyone confirm?

I remember that a car dealer in the UK used one in a Gumball and had it wrapped in General Lee colours. He even got the actress who played Daisy in the movie to ride with him

The 550 is a wicked track car. It's got horsepower/ torque, but the problem is the weight of this car. It kills you. I have thought many a night about turning my 550 into a track car. The first thing I would do is strip out everything. I would take off the bumpers, lower it, brembo brakes, sport seats, lexan, rear wing, straight pipes, race shocks, slicks, and upgrade sway bars. This car would be a fast a** track car. It's a monster at some of the longer tracks! The shorter tracks I don't think it would do well because of the weight.

Forget about making it a Prodrive race car. The Pro drive race car was a race car which resembled the Ferrari 550 from the outside. The car was completely redone. The only thing original on the Prodrive/Care Racing car was the Ferrari emblem and the engine block. That's it. Oh, maybe the hood.

I believe your referring to the '05 575 HGTC road car. Unfortunately no real weight savings except for the CC brake system and sport exhaust.

One crazy idea: why not doing it the other way? Find an original Prodrive 550 or even an original 575 GT1 (Ferrari built it by copying the Prodrive 550, but less successfully), and try to get it pass as a road car. With catalysts and mufflers and some tweaking of the engine control system it should do it. At least I'm sure it would pass in Germany - at an event last year I saw a road-legal Maserati MC12 racer, straight out of the FIA GT...

A friend of mine worked on the development of the FIA GT 575 engine, he tells me it was restricted to 580HP by the regulations but if you make it breathe freely it will easily peak at over 650HP without compromising durability. Now, how would that be? A 650HP 575M, weighing only 1100Kg and looking as mean as it could ever be?

BTW - the ex-FIA GT racers today are mostly found racing in national GT championships or even in hillclimbing (very successfully too). There seems to be loads of them around, finding an end-of-season car for sale should not be too hard...
