I'd say a voltage shock did that. I had a problem with the computer on one of my boat engines after a voltage spike on the dock. It would show about 76,xxx hrs on the port engine when it should have been about 900. It would count up, hit a busted bit and go back down to the lower number again every twenty or thirty hours. I'd be very wary of that car, there is likely hits on the all the CUs and the ODO is the canary.
