My recently acquired Boano had a horrible clutch. Turns out that it still retains the original type, with the flywheel "basket" and dual friction discs. However, through the years, the flywheel "basket" and the middle steel plate, and even moreso, the Pressure plate have been ground beyond saving.
So now I search for the best replacement scenario.
A- Do I "bead blast" the steel friction surfaces, so as NOT to remove any sacred metal, then have thicker friction materials applied to the clutch discs

B-Search out a replacement "kit" to continue (all ears on this one)

C-Search out a Tremec 5 spd OD trans, and replacement kit to enhance the enjoyment of this car, yet have all the changes a "bolt on".

Time is of the essence, as this car has been accepted in some significant events in months time!!!!!!!!

    TIA, RF.

Call Dan Levine at http://www.southlandclutch.com and tell him your problem. Then ask him to do the same fix he did for the Admiral's Ferrari.

    Best regards,

    Robert

Also suggest try Quartermaster, clutch specialists. Many years ago I think they developed a custom multi-disc clutch conversion set for early Ferraris along with the late John Hajduk of Motorkraft in Bensenville, Ill. Motorkraft was a Ferrari specialty shop and may still continue on with John's son, not certain. Quartermaster may still have records/data.. (Tremor 5 sp? Excommunicado.)

John Hajduk and Quartermaster developed the first conversion for my 410 Superamerica in about 1980. Ed Stoffels who owned Quartermaster sold out many years ago and developed Powertrain Technologies in Indiana. He has now retired from that firm, but still maintains ties with them.
