Hi all - been a while since I have been here. (I am still a newbie) Appreciate any thoughts on a couple issues. I surely will take the car to my mechanic, but thought I would ask here for peace of mind.

2003 575M F1 (second owner 25,000 miles) - does not get driven much. Was out of country 6 months. Just returned. Trickle charger failed. Battery dead of course. Replaced that on my own - pretty easy. Revived her. Idles fine. When idling, obviously in neutral. But if I click both paddles (which normally returns her to N) she shuts down. It will go into R, but not sure I should attempt to drive if shes gonna shut down at N.

Any similar experiences? These machines are awesome but perplexing to those who dont understand them. Cheers all :)

Insufficient information. She will idle fine in 1st or 2nd with your foot on the brake. If in neutral, why pull both paddles? You lost me somewhere in there.

We have quite a bit of experience with F1 575Ms collectively among the owners and pros. If it is possible to screw it up, likely one of us has done it learning how she works.

Thanks - Day two...yes idles fine in 1st and 2nd. Today when I return to N she dos not shut off - as she did yesterday. Seems to have sorted herself out. Check engine light on, but not surprising given the length of time inactive. Coolant reservoir bone dry - I suppose I should add something before driving to the mechanic - 10 miles away. Will water suffice for interim? Northern California weather here dont expect a freeze :)

There is also a very small hose, with a 90 degree angle at the end which I may have disturbed while replacing the battery - but i cant find any logical place for it to connect - is it possible its for air in/out take?

Also last year mechanic tells me O2 sensors are not responding likely not to pass SMOG - thats another kettle of fish I need to solve while home this summer.

    Appreciate your patience :)

Its a battery vent hose to direct away any acid that may vent from battery. Very few batteries have provision for it. Yours probably does not.

If last year your mechanic said O2s were not responding they should have been replaced last year. Do them now.

Fill tank about half full of water and take it to your mechanic. Also have him fix the coolant leak.

I'll be very honest. Waiting on the fix for the O2s and being low on coolant (it didn't evaporate) does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling about your mechanic. Northern California has a ton of choices in that department. Your car needs its battery heat shield and hold down bracket. Make sure they are reinstalled.

As a Norcal guy (South San Jose) I’ll be interested to hear more about who you use and how it goes.

Some say it’s all been downhill for us since Brian moved to texas ;-)
