575 F1 lacking power until warmed up

    Hi all, I have a 2005 575 F1. It's been great for the year and a half I've had it, but in the last month, from a cold start, the transmission has been very jerky and lacking in power. I'm assuming it's the transmission as it feels like there is a lot of slippage. It's back to normal after about 10min of slow driving, and fine again after the car has been parked for a couple of hours. I sent it to my regular shop and the suggested changing the F1 fluid, which was due anyway. The workshop now says that even after the fluid change, it's still jerky with no power from a cold start. They are checking the solenoids and other items, but they don't really know the problem. Has anyone else experienced this?

    F1 has nothing to do with power except getting it to the ground. If the clutch is slipping or throw-out bearing is faulty, it could give symptoms like those you describe. Have your techs done a visual inspection of the clutch throw-out bearing pin to see if the clutch is worn out?

    Hi Taz. Yes, that was the original suspicion as well, but when they hoisted it up and changed gears, the throw out bearing movement was still fast. They said the clutch still looked relatively new still as well. I will ask them to check the clutch again though.

    They said they are now checking the parameters on the diagnostic computer, not exactly sure what that means though.

    I had hoped the F1 fluid change would solve the problem, because the gears would change fine after warming up. A friend had speculated that the viscosity of the fluid might have broken down and warming it up enabled it to work again.

    Thanks again for the advice. If you think of anything that might help, I would greatly appreciate it.

    OK so how about your ambient temperature (where are you ?) is now much lower so the gearbox oil is initially much thicker - first few minutes jerky then as it warms up normal again

    EDIT : if you are still in Singapore that doesn't apply - I'm talking below 10 deg c ambient........

    Thanks Jimmie. Yes, still living in Singapore, so probably due to ambient temp.

    My tech now says it's it's probably due to a 80% worn clutch. He seems to think with adjustment (not sure what) it's much better. Will pick up my car tomorrow, and hopefully it's better.

    He probably reset the point of initial slippage (PIS). Should allow the last bit of clutch lining to be used, but the clutch will need replacement in the near future.

    You are exactly right Taz. It's still slipping off a cold start but it is better. Thanks for the advice as always.

    My tech did say that my style of gentle initial acceleration tends to wear the clutch more than if I accelerated a little bit harder. Quite ironic!

    You can bog start an F1 575M, but it takes quite a bit of practice and an educated right foot.
