    Hello,

still continuing my major on the 575. Car has 30.000 kms and all seems original in the car and I have no records indicating that a major with camcovers has been executed.

But, odd stuff while observing the camshaft caps (inlet) on the 1-6 bank.

Cap 3 seems not in the right orientation (see picture). The "S" mark is not oriented toward the front of the engine. Number has been engraved on the right side of the cap (or so it was mounted).

All the other caps have this orientation.
The "S" towards the front of the engine. Number on the left side (logically upside down..=. And so it is for all the other caps (left and right bank):

Caps seems all the same (apart the 8 at each end of the cams).
Anything I should worry about ?

    Thanks again +

Sounds like that was the last one installed on a Friday.

You can't worry about it now. Keep this working orientation. It may have been swapped wrong at some point. Maybe not. In theory would not matter due to factory align hone of the camshaft pathway. OTOH, If building a race engine small details matter.

    Thanks for the replies.
I've checked the WSM and I do not find any reccomendation regarding the orientation of the caps, apart the fact that they need to stay in that specific order (which is the case, no caps are inverted of course..).

The car made 30.000 kms like this, I would just go the conservative way and leave the caps in their original position.. another sleepless night will probably help...

Someone put it on backwards. Pull it off and look to see if there is any abnormal wear pattern. If it looks bad, you might consider polishing it out. Otherwise, I would reinstall it in the correct orientation. You can put some engine assembly grease on the bearing surface before reinstalling it correctly, then rotate the engine over a few turns. Remove it, and look to see if there is any metal to metal contact, indicating too tight a clearance. If it all looks good, then I would reassemble it correctly.
