But for a really “big wealth” Ferrari collector, a 575 (like my beloved 250 GTE) is not really on the radar.
These are cars for relatively well heeled enthusiasts.
Absolutely nothing wrong in that, a category that sums up most of us here.
A “completist” would want one, and probably want the best, but it’s not going to distract from the hunt for, say, a 288 GTO.

The Dinitrol products Ferrari used were petroleum based. One was waxy and beer colored, very thin and ran and oozed everywhere to get into nooks and cranny's. Over it went a thicker protective layer that semi hardened and was a very dark green/brown color. It would not flake or chip off like many undercoating products.

Dinitrol is a big company with a wide variety of products aimed at many industries. I believe it started in Italy but has had a sizable presence in Detroit for some time.

I made an offer on this car when Simon Furlonger had it for sale a couple of months ago but got no response. Then I viewed it at V Management and I bid on it the first time it was on Collecting Cars to the same value as my earlier offer but was outbid. After the auction, CC contacted me and said I could buy it at my offer. I asked what happened to the two higher bidders, silence. I was clearly being run up.

It was then on Carhuna, but there were no bids close to my CC bid so it was unsold and now tonight again on CC, again unsold

The owner had clearly bought it to flip it and has now overexposed it

Looks like a good car though Kevin.
I hope you get it for less than your original bid.
    Bon chance !

That also went through Collecting Cars last year but didn't sell (might have been mentioned earlier in this thread. I haven't checked). When did you own it? I don't have it as ever having been on that plate.

I've been having some fun with Carandclassic recently over another car. What a shower they are. They make Collecting Cars look like the last word in good businesses. Actually, to be fair to Collecting Cars, I have somehow managed to get involved with three cars going through them and in each case they looked into what I said and pulled the auctions.

It was originally on RX03 KDU when I bought it from Ferrari UK via Carrs Ferrari in 2004. https://www.pistonheads.com/features/ph-buying-guides/ferrari-575m--ph-used-buying-guide/47172

Ah thanks. That makes sense given it was originally, as you say, Maranello's press car, so would have a Reading registration rather than the Exeter plate it has now. Neither the RX plate nor your plate showed on the registration history check I use though.

I've been trying to list the previous owners but I'm missing a couple of early ones. Do you know who Richard sold it to?

Sorry, I can't fill in your gaps. You used to be able to ask the DVLA but they won't do it now, unfortunately.

I had two 288s and I have driven my 6 speed 575 almost 100,000 km and have savored every km. The 575 was far better to drive than the 288 with its uncomfortable seats and terrible turbo lag. As a paper weight, 288 is much nicer to look at of course and a more significant car in the history of Ferrari.

Nice car, I'm guessing that, as a 2005 car the lack of FHP is less important from a driving point of view?
An assembly number and price would be helpful !

51618 is not an assembly number for a 2005 575M. It would be from around SN 1344XX and September 2003.

2005s do not really need FHP. They come with half a set of HGTC shocks and updated shock mounts and Shock ECU.

I believe the assembly number is correct and so is your hypothesis on the chassis number. It is described as a 2005 because it was first registered in the UK in December 2005. I'm not sure why it wasn't registered earlier. I don't have any information to know but it could be it was registered somewhere like the Isle of Man or Channel Islands, although I think it was a dealer demonstrator to start with.

Darius- Sounds like it and this one does not even have the straight center pipes that started at AN 51797.
