    Brian:

I went back and looked at the original Ferrari of Atlanta invoice from 2017 and it states: “Abnormal noise…faulty drive bearing between front chest and oil pump drive train”.

So, you are correct…it wasn’t the cam drive but the oil pump drive.

This jives with your prior post on 11/21/23 where you discovered bad support bearings on a 575 oil pump drive.

In any case it’s just one more example of substandard bearings on early 575’s.

[Is there any chance the car you were working on was mine?]

In any event, I’m glad it wasn’t me who paid the bill.

    Thanks,
    Alan

And how exactly does that change my statement? I was factory trained on them and have worked on them since they were new. I am very well aware how and why belts fail. My meaning, my only meaning was the engine does not require removal to replace the bearings. Either there was more to it requiring removal of the engine or they charged him to remove the engine to perform a job that did not require it. And actually at $6000 some odd dollars I suspect the engine was not removed. Thats a very big job for that kind of money.

I never worked at Ferrari Atlanta. And actually replacing the oil pump drive bearings is surprisingly easy. I doubt I am the only one that has ever had to do it.

right now I have a local shop that will pull the dash(they have done this before) and send to a leather reupholster guy who does aircraft interiors
so next year I will have this done if not sooner
    will keep you advised
looks like 20-25 hours of labor for the total job
going to budget $10K for it

If a local guy pulls the dash can you ship it to Bradan? I thought from a weak memory they were a good service provider for that?

They won’t get the leather right. You have to send it to a Ferrari leather specialist
