Battery fully charged (per my battery saver) but strange things happen when attempting to start. Acting similar to totally dead battery in that engine does not attempt to turn over even a little. When turning key to position 2 Dash lights blink oddly then turn off. Door windows did not rise back up (still down). Getting strange beeping patterns at different times, anywhere from 0 to 5 beeps when opening door after attempting to start. Thinking possible alarm related issue. Read alarm manual (made little sense to me) thinking it would provide directions on how to reset the alarm or indicate issue due to beeping patterns but due to my lack of understanding the manual no luck.

Called F1 Imports here in Naples and attempted to describe. Based on symptoms they felt dead battery or alarm issue. Would prefer not to have vehicle towed to them if it can be avoided.

Does any one have any thoughts on this issue? Thanks in advance and apologies for poor description of problem above. So strange I am having problem putting into words.

I agree with Greyboxer. Do what he is suggesting. BTW, when in my cars the batteries were totally shot, I also got the battery "charged" status from my battery tender. They may not be the appropriate tool to read the status of a fully discharged battery.

Also, all the other "flickering" / intermittent symptoms you have, are similar to what happened to mine, when the battery was drained/sulfated. I even had this issue on my GT3RS with a battery that was just 1 year old and continuously on a battery tender!

You most likely will see that a new battery will cure all these symptoms and it is easy to replace with somebody to help you, and you can even do it alone. There are instructions on this site on how to change the battery. Only a few things need to be removed: )

    I hope this helps :)

    Best and.... Happy New Year!

Another possibility is a loose battery terminal connection that fails under load.

Thank you greyboxer. I’ll borrow a volt meter this week and see what it reads. It would be a simple solution to the issue.

Thank you marinara. I was hoping to hear from someone who experienced the same issue. It confirms greyboxer’s thoughts on the battery. Since I was going to borrow a volt meter from F1 I will also pick up a battery so I’m prepared to do the replacement. In both 2017 and 2018 the car was on a battery saver for 6 months each (summer months) and it makes me think that could be the issue given the battery was last replaced in February 2017.

Buy a voltmeter/multi-meter. One of the most handy tools to have around the house and they are very cheap. Two other things I would check: bad grounds/connectors and voltage leak.

I've owned two Ferraris and they had really bad electrical connections, especially to ground. Check the big ones first: battery to starter, to alternator and to ground. Chances are they are corroded. I just redid my alternator and the battery strap was ugly corroded.

My 456 also had an electrical leak even when the key was out. I still have not located it but I did manage to find the fuse circuit and remove it to stop the leak. It was a very small leak so it seemed like a bad battery that wouldn't hold a charge. Changing the battery gives a temporary fix so make sure you diagnose the cause before your replace the battery.

There are couple of ways to check for a voltage leak but I like the electrolysis method through the radiator as that kills two birds with one stone.

Using the ground cut off when not using the car daily is also a good practice.

Good luck and please report back.

Stu- Shutting the car down with the disconnect (master) switch on a regular basis is not a good idea. Loses all the data the system has generated and requires a run cycle after each disconnect if you want her to run well. Also deletes most stored codes that system has generated.

Rick. These are all good inputs. I agree with Taz. I learned that. In the past I thought it would be good and turned off the master switch. Well, it took me a while to get the engine to run properly again. It was somewhat stressful to see the engine running on 6 cylinders and a bit of a tedious procedure to reset it. I now just keep a good battery tender (it is the Ferrari one but is actually a rebranded CTEK and it works great).

Let us know how it went!

So this morning I decided to look under the hood to determine the ease of replacing the battery knowing full well all of my automotive tools are back in Pennsylvania. I do have the WSM for the vehicle. 1st thing I notice is that both driver and passenger side windows are still down the few cm's they drop when you open the door. I open the driver's side door and reach in and pull on the hood release under the dash. I close the door and walk around to the front of the car. I release the latch and open the hood and I get a single beep from the car. So now I'm curious to know if that single beep is telling me something regarding the alarm or possibly the hood release contacts?

    Thoughts please?

And yes, I'm am still heading out to get a voltmeter even if it is just to keep in the home for future use. I am hoping it is just a battery replacement issue.
