Interesting news from Ferrari in June. They have asked the network to judge interest in a replacement
Non-Electrochromic glass roof assembly. It seems they have a solution for a replacement roof assembly for everyone that has expressed concern that the OEM roof is NLA.

The TSB indicated pre-orders available till the end of the year for 2025 delivery.

I have asked for pricing and if any other information is coming our way , I will share more details as I get it

    Would you be interested?

Thanks for following up on this. Frankly, I'm a bit stunned, but I'm glad Ferrari is being proactive.

What makes more sense is a “lighter” weight carbon fiber roof. One of the issues is the glass roof is very heavy. That causes the struts to fail and require replacement. With a lightweight carbon fiber roof the struts won’t fail and need replacing. When I am driving I could care less about looking upward through the glass. My eyes are on the road. With the top down it’s what I want to experience….not look up at the glass.

I voted “no”. While the roof on my SA is functional if the Electrochromic glass fails I am going to cover the roof with a black wrap or a carbon fiber “look”. I think spending $40k does not make sense. However I would pay $20k for a carbon-fiber roof.

I think you need to provide more information....would the non electro replacement roof be eligible for shows/classiche?

FWIW The issue you the system was designed for a particular weight range and carbon is likely too light requiring re-engineering the struts/etc.
Mind you this is not hard to do but still something.

Are there any numbers on the roofs that link them to their original cars? I have a roof and am curious what car it may have come from.

I was thinking of bidding on that SA but I’m not bidding against Larry. Roof doesn’t matter much to me as I’d drive it and no matter the damage I’m sure it works better than a barchetta top. :D

Although the electrochromic roof on my SuperAmerica functions as designed my shop (FImports in Naples) suggested they switched off the ECU so it will not function. The owner explained that with the roof ECU switched off the glass cannot delaminate. And my roof is in perfect condition. He said if I want to turn it back on it’s fairly simple. If I ever decide to sell my SA I can have the shop turn the ECU back on. If some SA owner wants to disable the electrochromic roof I can have Eric at FImports give me the instructions. Cost is peanuts.

No need to install that kit noted above. It’s work that is not needed including the “dummy” panel on the console. Like I said there is no reason to install a new non-electrochromic roof. If your roof doesn’t change just install a carbon fibre “wrap” and save yourself $40,000. Now when the “mystery” guy shows up and says he can sell me a carbon fibre roof at a reasonable cost I am “all-in”.

    @JAM1 …….WAIT A MINUTE JOE?

@LARRYH didn’t tell me he was bidding on a SA. And he didn’t talk to me? At 16 years of owning my SA I know these cars. I still have (mostly) my brain in tact and I do know what I am talking about….as long its a good brain day….

Will the roof still operate in convertible mode with the ECU off?

I do not believe there are any chassis identifiers, build data yes. I'll double check as we have a pair of SA here in the shop now.

To each is own. There is certainly a camp that would prefer adding carbon fiber look vinyl wrap over the roof, and others that may want to keep it more OEM.

The roof and associated information is for those owners that may have cracked, delaminated, or otherwise unsightly roofs with no options to address those concerns.
Ferrari has heard from enough owners asking for a solution that they came up with the kit listed above.
It does not have the electrochromic feature of the original, but otherwise is a solid replacement option for those that care, worldwide.
    IMHO

As for cost of unplugging the ECU, yeah that in of itself shouldn't cost much if anything, then wrap some duct tape around the exposed connections..
( Note: The block off caps are not the expensive part. )

True…I guess I live in a different camp than doing like those that are focused on only OEM. As a Ferrari owner for nearly 50 years I believe in making the best cars in my lifetime better.

My 330 GTC has improved cooling, excellent a/c, fast windows and more to make my car better. I won’t win any awards. But my car is better than new in my view.

And my SuperAmerica will have a manual gearbox being installed by ExotiCarsUSA. That’s as far as I can to be in a non-OEM camp. And if a reasonable carbon fibre roof becomes available I will stand in line. To make it better car that won’t be a problem in the future makes sense to me.

As you clearly stated “To each his own.”
