The electronic button in the cabin for the trunk stopped working but the fuel door release button next to it still works. Trunk opens just fine when pulling the emergency release strap on the rear deck.

Any ideas on how to trouble-shoot?

Did you try it again after the manual release? Then, look at all fuses? Wire connections? Could just be a failed switch. I'm away from my car so I can't have a look at the book. You might post in the 575 section

    Ok,
    I'll make this worse,
pulled the 575 out of garage, opened trunk with button,
engine off. No problem, trunk opened. loaded some very small boxes into trunk
drove to office to drop off boxes. trunk would not open when button pushed. used manual
release, stored boxes in back of office. Left office, went to gas station with 93 gas.
stopped car, turned car off. pressed gas release no work!!!! pressed trunk, no work!
used manual on trunk and manual on gas release, filled up with 93. all ok. drove home,
parked car. went to dinner in one of the other cars, came home opened door to car, pressed
trunk, worked perfect!!! pressed gas release!!! perfect also, pressed both buttons about 20 times worked fine every time. I was gonna check fuses and wires but after it worked again I am totally lost. Do I have a gremlin?????

I did try it again after the manual release pull and still no luck. Gas release continues to work fine and the trunk release is still dead. Not even hearing the little electrical click sound.

Rob -- I had a similar problem with the trunk release on my 550. What I found was that for some unknown reason, the latch and u-shaped stationary piece went out of adjustment, becoming very tight. Once I released the trunk manually, which was hard to do, I checked the latch mechanism (by closing the latch manually and then flipping the switch on the dash), and found it worked fine. From there I adjusted the u-shaped piece slightly (there's a nut that moves the piece up and down) until the trunk closed. That corrected the problem. Perhaps you've encountered the same thing? (You can also check the latch mechanism itself by flipping it into the closed position and then pushing the black button next to it -- it if doesn't open the latch back to the open position, that it likely your problem.) In the 550, the trunk release doesn't require the ignition to be on either. But the ignition must be on to release the gas lid.

Update on this problem trunk release and fuel release totally stopped working.
was going to take everything apart. Then I thought check the fuse, fuse was ok,
but went ahead and found the relay was loose, pushed it back in and I think the problem is gone.
moral of the story check the simple things!!!!!!

Yes! I just had an issue with my left headlight barn door and the starter. I had shut the car off without turning off the headlights and then turned them off after pulling the key. Left headlight was flipping up and down nonstop. Battery cutoff and back on, still flipping. Start car, lights on and off, highs, and then finally figured I should turn them off first. Then engine off key out, and stayed put. I swear it's the relays (tight) working like logic switches. Something I did sent them out of kilter and they wouldn't like it until I switched them back properly in sequence. Then I was asked by a father to let their son take a picture of the car. Sure. But I got distracted about the handbrake. Went to restart and magic muse belt got stuck. Shut off car quick and went to restart. Then I heard a weird noise like rattling which was NOT good. Stopped. Turned again after a little prayer and it was fine. I think the starter gears might have rattled a little from the quick on off. Ran fine up the driveway and into garage. After all that I was just worried the kid heard me curse. Got a couple good shots and we traded honks as the mini van pulled away.
