575 AC help: Recurring topic but nothing recent on search. 2002 575 no longer cooling. A/C went out on the way to Dallas to have routine yearly fluids, etc. Service tech says compressor pressure low despite recharge. Recommends new compressor and also replace expansion valve and A/C system refrigerant accumulator. No shock that the cost is insane. About 12 years ago, I was on road trip to San Francisco and my A/C compressor seized up in Winslow, AZ. Flat bed to Scottsdale for new compressor. I have that old compressor. I remember reading about company that rebuilds A/C compressor but couldn't find post. Bottom line, any recommendation for Ferrari A/C repair within 400 miles of Little Rock? Should I send my old compressor for rebuild and take that to be installed? Could a local "Foreign" car shop do the install. Any advice appreciated. (Best I can tell, Ferrari inflates the cost of a Delphi/Harrison compressor x10+)
Sounds ridiculous. Have you checked the parts manuals for component locations/accessibility? The expansion valve is shown on the side of the evaporator unit in the passenger footwell. My initial thought is to send my original compressor for a professional rebuild then take the part to a reliable shop for install and see how it goes. The other parts mentioned by the dealer are relatively inexpensive and if replacement isn't a huge labor cost then OK but if it is a multi-hour labor charge then just replace the compressor, which is a bit of a PITA but straight forward.
You say the tech said the system was low on pressure and you just had it recharged. You have a leak. The components are fine. Find the leak, repair it. Pull a vacuum and recharge.
"Find the leak, repair it. " ***** That was my first thought. I'm going to pick up the car Thursday and will try to get more information. When my compressor seized up, it was obvious that there was a major problem just from the noise.
Thanks a $6,300! Just for future search information on the subject, I went to a local shop to see if they could source the same Delphi compressor...no luck. Another option maybe mondoautoricambi, the site is in Italian but they have the compressor listed for 915 euros. For me, sound like Austin Rebuilders is the best option.

"just open the windows" ***** Drove ~350 miles yesterday with the window open....it was only 88 degrees F, so was tolerable. When I grew up in the 40s, 50s, there was no home or car A/C and the family took multi-week road trips in July or Aug. I'll just suck it up until I sort out getting it fixed.
Progress report: With Brian's suggestion, just sent compressor to Austin Rebuilders, Inc. for evaluation for rebuild. One step at a time!

Thanks for the info.... Pick up the car from dealer yesterday....asked about leaks, etc. Service rep. said no leak in system but no pressure on "either side" of system..ergo bad compressor.
I replaced my AC kompressor and paid 800 euro for it at the official Ferrari workshop in Modena Italy. Don’t get screwed!
Interval follow up: Austin Rebuilders called this PM. Received the compressor today, ran it on the bench and it seems to be OK with pressure and clutch. Strange situation, this is the compressor that was removed about 10-12 years ago when it "locked up'' and caused an ungodly screeching/howl from the engine, (belt slipping in locked pulley?) It was replaced in Scottsdale AZ and has been sitting in storage since then. I told them to tear it down for complete inspection and replace anything suspicious. (I am impressed so far with Austin Rebuilders customer service....) Just another odd F-Car situation!!
Follow up...Austin Rebuilders called this AM, rebuild complete and shipping out today. Cost ~$325 + shipping.
That can happen if it is overcharged or if an expansion valve gets plugged. Does not always mean the compressor is bad.
Follow up on 575 A/C issue. Drove to Dallas Sunday with the rebuilt compressor for install at Norwood Auto Italia Monday. (Fortunately left home early and heat remained tolerable until last hour or so, when I needed the towel that I brought to mop sweat. :>) ) They retested the existing system before starting installation. Initially about a # low on refrigerant, refilled and high and low sides of compressor were within spec. Inspected for leaks, then vacuum tested system. Removed belt covers and inspected belts, compressor, etc. Refilled and rechecked pressures which were OK. On max cool, vent air was about 48 degrees. Not sure what the problem was/Is but decided to leaves current system in place and see how things go. During the 350 mile drive home, the A/C was excellent. First time I have been to Norwood. I was impressed with the fact that they spent 3+ hours trying to identify and solve a problem rather than replacing parts and at a very reasonable cost.
