My gas cap won't open, its either the switch or the solenoid,,, or a disconnected wire

does anyone have info on the wire connections on the switch?

FYI, the trunk lid operates, so its not the fuse

    thanks

    ....or the relay (R12).

No one on the forum seems to have diagrams for the 575.

You could jumper the relay (socket) to see if the solenoid works. Try jumping pins 3 & 5 (with the ignition on if required).

I assume power will be on pin 3 from the fuse. Check with a voltmeter. I don't know if this is live battery or switched (ignition key power). Pin 1 may be power from the switch (when pushed). Pin 2 may be an earth.

The switch probably has 4 wires. Backlighting power may be white or yellow/red (typical Ferrari colours). If you can access the back of the switch, look for 12 volts on the wiring:

    1) with the ignition on (or not)
    2) with the external lights on

There will probably be at least one black earth wire.

Use the back-up cable to open. Then do some diagnosis on whether the switch is actuating the release, but not enough to allow opening. Also sometimes caused by the rubber fender protector fouling the mechanism. If you suspect the switch after that, swap with the trunk/boot release switch and see if that works. Then on to Ian's more scientific approach.

Taz, does the ignition need to be on for trunk or gas cap lid operation?

Mine will only work if the ignition is off. Where is the backup cable?

Interesting. Makes sense. Unfortunately, that might mean that there are more unknown relays for controlling these systems. Now that I think about it, cars such as the 360, 430 and later models use circuitry in the instrument panel to control systems like this (rather than additional socket-mounted relays). We really do need a wiring diagram.

not so great on a car like this

    when i
Thats (wiring diagram) what i was l was looking for,, but i should have figured it out , there should be 12V on terminal # 3 ,one way or another
also, one would hear if the solenoid clicks , you would think

thanks all,, i will update when done

Do you hear the solenoid trying to work when pushing the button?

well i have power at the switch (ignition off, didn;t check ign on) ) , and the switch works

now i have to find access to the solenoid,, it don;t look easy

if anyone has a path , that would be great

for what its worth,, i have to open the trunk lid, either by the other switch or pull a cable under the platform behind the driver's seat

Before you start pulling the car apart, do you have power at the relay? And continuity between the switch and the relay?

The manual suggest removing the optional CD player, removing the trunk carpet over the wheelhouse, disconnecting the plug on actuator, then undoing the 2 bolts inside the filler cap cavity (outboard of the actuator plunger)
