I have an 2002 575M that has developed a squeek in the rear suspension on the passenger side only. It starts making the noise only after the car has been warmed up (after about 5 mi. of normal driving). The car has about 10,000 mi. on it, and had the Firano package installed by FOBH in August of 2002. Any thoughts of possible problems and or solutions would be most appreciated.

Does it only squeek when you apply your brakes?

It squeeks when I accelerate, brake, go into and out of curves, and when just going over minor road bumps. When I stop while the car is warm and push down on the rear fender it sqeeks. After the car cools down it doesn't squeek when pushing down on the fender.

Sounds like a rubber bush, Look at your rear sway bar bushes, control arm bushes etc......you can spray them with WD40 or some sort of lubricant aerosol spray, this will stop the squeeking for a while. Do you drive the car when it rains much as I have seen this wash grease away from areas of suspension of cars like that before ;)

You need a copper based lubricant such as Wurth CU 1100 or several from Permatex, but to put it between the pinion and bushing involves a bit of disassembly to remove the bush, so the spray method is probably easiest although a short term solution.
You do not want the pinion to seize in the bushing - I've seen this with Delrin bushings at it imparts a lot of energy to components that ended up broken.

First, thanks so much for your interest and help PAP. I don't drive this car in the rain. I have a great mechanic but he is about 130 miles away. He will pick up and deliver but this would take a lot of time and be a lot of effort for what I hope is a minor problem. I just called him and he said about the same thing that you have about the WD-40. he mentioned a pin in the assembly that has been known to cause this noise in 550 's. I unfortunatley don't know anything about suspension assemblies. It sounds like my best bet is to find some one local who can put it on a lift and do this. Believe me its hard to do in Cincinnati Ohio. Another alternative is to drive up the 130 mi to his shop. Would you think it would be safe to drive it this way? It seems ride fine.

BTW ,do you know what Pin he was talking about?

    Thanks again

    George

The "Pin" is the pinion bolt that secures the shock to the body and should be about the thickness of your small finger. Find the shock tower, follow it down to the bottom where it ends in a ring. Inside this is the bushing and a bolt that goes through it, that bolt is the "pin"
