I was driving to the gym on Wednesday last week when my tire pressure monitor popped up on the info screen, (in red!) saying that the RR had 20psi. I thought that another electronic gizmo was malfunctioning when the psi started to change downwards. I detoured toward the nearest service station a couple of miles away and by the time I got there the psi was down to 8. I got out and could hear air escaping from the tire. When I looked for the leak I saw a piece of metal sticking out of the tread. It turned out to be a broken box cutter blade and the cut was about a half inch across - essentially unrepairable.

The good news is that the flat fixer that comes with the car worked. I used it and then added air to the tire to about 40 psi which meant I could get the car home.
Finding a replacement tire was now the first order of busness, The local F dealer didn't have any, so I went online to tirerack.com and they were in stock (Pirelli PZero Assimetrico). Two days later I had two new tires delivered. I found a mobile tire service online that is coming on Wednesday to install the tires for $35 each. I'm replacing both rears as they were getting close to replacement wear anyway.

I'm still waiting for the local dealer's price quote as I was gone for a long weekend to the Ryder Cup in Detroit, but the outcome is that online merchants rule, especially when you know exactly what you want.

How many miles on the set of tires? I am replacing all 4 of my 19 inch Pirellis on the 575 at 9700 miles. (Very little track time)

4500 miles of reasonably agressive driving. Very liitle highway miles. The rears take quite a beating under heavy acceleration, but the fronts are probably good for a few thou more.

Martin, try the new Michelin PS2's...I had Pzeros on my old car, swapped for S02 Bridgestones, current car has OEM S02's will be swapped to PS2's or Corsa PZ's. I drove PS2's on new 997, loved 'em. Anything rides better than PZ's.

I just looked, and 19 sizes are not yet available in either for the 575 yet. Should be soon for the PS2. call Alex @ Tirerack, x297, ask him. Tell him I sent ya, he is a great guy, great service. (not related, no commercial interest, yadayada)

That tire pressure feature is cool. This may have prevented a death in the Silver State Classic a few years back. Hope they add it all F cars.
