Well i had narrowed down my choice to a couple of 575ms but had a 599 opportunity come up. Interested in opinions of the collectibility of both cars as i intend on holding for awhile

Collectibility is the wrong metric for these cars unless you have at least a 20-25 year horizon.

Agreed, don't see either of these ever being collector cars, just nice older Ferrari V12s you can buy on a budget without alot of depreciation (eventually)

Thanks for the reply. I guess a better saying would have been not falling off the depreciation cliff

I’m going to add a different metric for long term ownership. Chains vs belts. 599 has timing chains AFAIK. This should/could equal lower long term ownership costs which MIGHT make it more collectible. However, as others have said, don’t buy a Ferrari because you think it will appreciate in value.

Modern production Ferraris generally depreciate to about 1/3 of MSRP within 15 years. So the 575M is fully depreciated. The 599 will depend on the year. The '07 and the '08 cars are getting close to the bottom. The later years still have some way to go.

    I've owned both an 03 575 and an 08 599. The 599 and I are happy together.

Thanks I have decided to go with the 599 - now I have to find one that is the right one for me. A little bit maddening because they range in price from 120k to 129 around 15k miles area. But the search is part of the fun. Thanks for the note

03 575 to 14 Cali to 08 599. For me, 599 easily the most enjoyable. 120-130k is current price range for low mile excellent condition vehicle. Check with dealers. If you can find a certified one in that range, well worth it.

If they are both F1, I would take a 599. Enzo engine. It’s a different kind of Ferrari, more hyper. 575 more laid back. I don’t feel F1 of either will be particularly collectible, mind. I doubt one will depreciate much faster than the other.

That's a change, newer Cali to older V12, I have not seen often on F-chat.
In your case, you had already owned a 575, but what were your thoughts going from DCT to older F1 transmission? (assuming these were all paddle cars). Thanks, in advance...T

I view the 550/575 as the last of the old-school V-12 Ferrari. The 599 is more modern and bigger.

These are both V12 Ferraris. Someday soon the world will no longer be making V12 cars. Who knows what that will do for values. My advice, buy what tugs at your heartstrings.

Agreed, and in fact someday soon there will be no gasoline engines made at all. But then he who has the V12 will have the most kick ass casket of all!

I had my car out today. It's an incredible racing machine with a magnificent leather interior. And mine is just a plain jane 599!

George, my sympathies for being forced to drive a plain jane 599. Is there somewhere that I can send money to so I can help you out? Maybe start a go fund me account so you can get a “better” car? Ron. ;)

    575 to Cali to 599
Tom, I think the 599 is the best looking mdoern V-12, and when prices dropped, I started looking . My biggest concern was the F1 transmission, as I was not thrilled with the F1 in the 575. the DCT in the Cali was not the greatest either. After driving the 599, the difference in this F! compared to the 575 is really significant. the only thing I miss regarding the Cali DCT is the 7th gear. In short, speed, handling, looks, interior, the 599 is a joy.

I love them all but the 550 / 575 did very little for me cosmetically.
The 599 was a peach visually.
    Plus the "Enzo" engine.

Currently the 575 (F1, as most are) is caught in an "intermediate status" that may make it less appealing. Although probably an objectively better car than the 550, the F1 gearbox denies it the "classic" status of the 550. The 599 on the other hand is still an awesome car with impressing performance (while on a track, the 550 and 575 are completely outdated).
So for me the alternative is between the 550 and 599; as a single Ferrari I'd go for a 599 and as a second one I went for a 550 (to complement the 488). But that's subjective of course, I fully understand one could appreciate the improvement of the 575 over the 550 (I did 15 years ago - although the 599 did not exist yet).

I was in the same position and went 575M over the 599. I plan on owning a 599 in the future (next car?) and didn't want to go backwards in technology as I was shopping F1 transmissions. 575M looks better and 599GTB is a better car. But there isn't a wrong choice.
