I admit that I'm looking at a 430. But, how would the handling of an 575M compare to a carerra (993)? I love the responsiveness and tight feel of the 993. Some on the other board suggest the 575 is more of an insulated luxo cruiser.

    Chris:

Hi again, I owned a 993, 996, and now have a 997S, and a 575 with the FHP and 19" wheels. Keep in mind the 993 is a smaller lighter car, but the 575 has better steering. You really need to go to Algar and drive these cars, not matter how many questions you ask, there is no way any of are going to tell you as much as a terst drive will.

I've had similar cars: 993 C4S, 996, 996 TT and now a 997 Cab S. I also have a 2001 550. The steering is very different for each, and not necessarily better or worse for any.

Porsche cars are rear engined. Even with all wheel drive (993C4S and 996TT) they are tremendous cars on twisty, tight roads--the secret to getting results is using the tons of grip out of the corners supplied by the weight bias from the rear engine placement.

The Ferrari 550 is a long nosed, front engine car. Much heavier than any of the Porsche cars. Its not as immediately responsive and doesn't have the grip out of a corner so it must be steered differently to get its best. If you use its loads of torque, hp and front engine weight, its no less able and can be moved around a corner very deftly, too.

I agree with Chris. Drive them both and see what you like...No matter, they are both able to be cornered/driven much faster than most drivers could ever learn to use them.

I have 996tt and 575M (stick with fiorano), very different cars and both keepers. I have 65k miles on the turbo and 45k on the f-car. I have driven 6 or 7 360's and except for the cs, they were nice but so-so compared to the 575. If you like to drive, the 575 is hard to beat. I can drive it 14 to 16 hours a day, and even after 3 or 6 thousand miles, I miss not being in the car. I have no talent as a driver but have been in both p and f-cars with good drivers and the handling of both is amazing. A choice between 575 and 430, very few people can drive either car close to the potential, and the choice is more of self image rather than handling.
