I am taking delivery of 599 1st week of July. I went to the dealer to look at it and realized that it has no 60th badge. Have they done away with this ?

!! Sorry, this seems to be the owner emblem, so I figured this out myself. !!

(I am paying premium and buying a German dealer car in Japan, no 3 year wait and also the exhaust sound and some things are better in the EU cars). Therefore I was happy to find one with 20inch, carbon brakes, Powerseat, LEDed carbon handles.

BTW the dealer took a 430GT and a 599 (not mine) to the tracks and the 599 outright beats the GT. The owner of the GT was very upset at this... No regular road, slower than 599 and more work to get it right for a specific track. I am sure it was not shaken down or adjusted to the specific track but...

Japan will host the Forza Ferrari 2007 with all the FXX comming from all over the world on July 21 and 22 2007. Will up picts as soon as I get them. If anyone here is coming to Suzuka with their FXX, love to meet and chat.

For what it's worth, I have had my 599 for a couple of weeks now - I haven't got my file with me at work but I think my VIN is higher than yours - I have the badge for the 60th anniversary and it's really not very nice.

In fact, I took the car back to the dealer because I thought it was scratched or marked or there was maybe some protective tape left on it -- he agreed that it looked terrible but then he discovered that the background (the part that looked so downmarket) was actually a map of the world and was meant to look like that! In hindsight, I almost wish they'd left the badge off, but it wasn't an option.

I would suggest that you get the badge but not put it on the car -- keep it in a file so if the next buyer of the car wants it, he's got it, but it's obviously up to you.

On the track, the 599's relative performance versus the 430 is really dependent upon the track layout -- we had the 599 and the 430 at Mosport this past Tuesday and the 599 killed it on the two long straights, but seemed a bit slower (of course, my car was brand new so i wasn't really thrashing it) through the corners. My conclusion from the day was that the 430 was a slightly better track car, while the 599 was a much better road car, making the 599 a more desirable package. On a smaller, tighter track, the 430 would really eat up the 599.

But the 599 is by far the better package in total.

    Hope that helps.

IIRC , the 599 posts faster lap times at Fiorano than a F430 and Fiorano isnt a large track as SPA or Monza or even Magny Cours.

Josh, thanks for the info. I see, so this is not an owner name badge. I really appreciate this info.

As for the 430GT vs 599, they did tested it in the long straight F1 courses of Fuji, so this makes a lot of sense. GT is a race car, and 599 will have no chance of diving inn and coming out like the GT. The 599 has 12c's so straight should be the only area it can overtake the 599.

Setting on the GT also matter a lot, at this test there was no in-depth setup, so hence the result.

However the GT owner could not believe how fast the 599 was on the straights. So 599 has huge potential to run GT races if modified around the legs and wearing S tires.

    cheers

YellowbirdRS and BigTex, thanks for your welcome. I have been a ROM member before, and have seen many Ferrari forums, but as made obvious by posts like ERIC LV and your warm welcomes, this is THE site to be.

Forza Ferrari 207 is a Ferrari Club Japan event. Since this is related to Japan, I will start a new thread on this subject on ASIA area and not continue on the 599/612 thread, so please take a look.

    LOL

C'mon get real. 430 NGT, Hewland sequential gear box... Lap time at Zhuhai for 430 GT is 1:38, for 599 on road tyres is 1:52. Pleeeeeease folks stop talking garbage. What a waste of space...

I don't think that a 599 could be faster than an F430 GT both on a straight line and around the track.

Hey, Andrew in Paris, didn't the French just recognise Barbra with their highest award for excellent driving? ;)

Brettski, no I don't drive it to work - I live in midtown and drive a Continental T as the daily driver (not GT).
Am heading to Mosport Wednesday so if you're there, say hello - my 599 is Argento over cuio with grey stitching - very subtle, if that word can be used for the 599. If i could master this posting thing, I'd send a few pix into the site.
Had it out for one track day already - will need a new set of boots after tomorrow, I'm sure.

Maybe they are wrongly refering to the F430 Challenge which is obviously much slower than the F430 GT2.

    It's pretty hard to believe.
