Car will be with a fabric roof, manual operation with a limited speed when on....The car is meant to be open top. GTO engine confirmed but the car will be heavy...only 60-70 will be produced hence the price. MJ
Thats what i heard. The buyer is a very serious collector from France but the info doesnt come first hand from him but from a friend of mine who knows him.
My dealer just confirmed: GTO engine, soft top limited to 130KPH, very, very limited numbers probably $500K.
Anyone car to try a p-shop? I thought the flying buttresses were integral to the aero? How will that work with a soft top?
Thanks everyone for all the valuable info. Again, this exercise is the holy grail of brand marketing - creating hysteria by selling out all stock before public even knows it even exists
These limited edition cars we really don't need, usually don't translate into the high numbers for the collectors.I have an HGTE and can't see it being a convertible.Liked my 430 Spyder a lot though and think a 458 Spyder will be a car I must have. The 599 convertible will not have the collectibility of the Daytona soft top.The GTO factor will of course make a big difference but it's still just a 599.Also perhaps the last one.As my ole daddy used to say, "never be the first to try the new or the last to use the old". I thought my HGTE was the end of the line but this model just won't die!
Hi I've just got back from Maranello where I was given a preview of the new car before it leaves for Pebble Beach. Most of what is written so far is correct (at the time of writing) GTO engine, and similar performance. About the same weight as standard 599 (not GTO weight), due to use of carbon-fibre, and losing the rear window glass. (glass is the heaviest material, by area, on the 599) Car will be with a fabric roof - which is very clever new design and not like 550 - and with flying buttresses. Wait and see! Speed is limited when soft-top is fitted. Only 70-100 will be produced. The dealers had a Dealer meeting in Maranello and have seen the new car. They also have details of the new 612 replacement which will surprise a lot of people. Nathan
The car I saw was red with the buttresses and roof supports in silver. IMHO it looked great, but see what you think when it arrives at PB. But don't forget that owners can have it pretty way any colour they like. Nathan
This thread has taken a strange path. Is this true--GTO engine, speed limited, canvas top? Or are you all pulling our leg.
Does this mean the windshield pillars continue to the buttresses and include the roof rails either side, and these remain fixed? So is the fabric roof only in the center of the roof, between the roof rails?
I've been told production is extremely limited with only 15 cars for the whole Northern Europe region
I have similar sentiments but have to admit that at these power levels the weight of a folding hard top is not as much of liability as it would be in a less powerful car.
Guys, I would like to say more, but all will be revealed at Pebble Beach later in a couple of weeks. Nathan
The prototype I saw did not have a folding hard-top. It has, as has been stated earlier in this thread, a unique canvas top. Nathan
