599 Engine Mounts....

Engine twisting torque is no longer dampened. Mine were toast and the fluid/gel had leaked out but I did not know any better (16k miles). Replaced by EAG during the F1 conversion to manual, along with the transaxle mounts which similarly had lost their integrity. A weak point on these cars.

 

Look at the insulation pad under the hood. If you see any indications that the pad has been contacted by the valve covers, your mounts have collapsed.

 

Anyone have a picture of a spent motor mount?

 

Would the car tracking of line when accelerating have anything to do with motor mounts?

More than likely you need a full four-wheel suspension alignment, especially if she has been strapped down while being shipped.

 

Increased vibration from driveline, especially at idle
You may notice a thud-like noise from the driveline when coming off throttle under acceleration
Fluid leaking from under engine area, ,maybe, as fluid may collect on underbody panel, before making it to the ground

... a designed to wear item... Rubber bushings and mounts wear and fail with use, add a high horsepower driveline, when driven, may wear quicker than a car parked in the garage, but even then, rubber degrades.
Audi to Zonda, Ferrari or Porsche, they all wear over time.

With my Porsche 928 I replaced the motor mounts at 150k and 25 years old, they are fluid filled
The easy way to tell is the motor sits lower, should be the same for the 599

I will try to find a photo, but from underneath the round circular gel filled mount showed leakage stains.

 

I was just recently speaking with one of the most long term and respected independent Ferrari mechanics in my area. I was telling him that this winter my 612 with 56,000 miles on it needed new shocks (he advised a rebuild) and belt service. He advised that I have the motor mounts replaced. The reason he gave was that worn mounts can cause another failure and for the life of me I can't remember what it was he said could be damaged.

Needless to say, I'm just going to have them replaced.

 

How about go back to him and ask what he was talking about?

 

He may be confusing it with a 550 that can damage the oil pressure sensor/sender with worn mounts.

 

Thanks Taz, that is exactly it, the oil pressure sensor. When he told me I remember thinking that is something I would have never suspected.

He was referring to my 612, that may not apply to a 599. I assumed they would probably be the same.
