Hello Everyone, So my car did not come with the optional fender shields. I might want to add them but I'd like to know if they are through bolted. According to the diagram they look like they are in which case I'm not letting anyone drill holes in my fenders. Thanks in advance!
George, the fenders are different, the shields are embeded in the fenders and fixed with 2 bolts and nuts through holes. Daniel
When Daniel says different, he means very different and not likely something you want to undertake. The shield actually fits into a depression that is stamped in the fender. They do not sit on top, they are almost flush to the surface of the fender. There are some long threads about this in the 360/430 section. A couple of people have had the fenders removed and depressions stamped into them but I don't know/remember how those ultimately turned out.
Yes, Thank you Daniel and John. It's exactly as I thought so I won't be doing that to the car. I have plenty of thoughts of things to do, I have new shocks for the front which will go on in the spring. Plus I'm thinking of starting on the sticky buttons, they are not terrible but they are getting there. Thank you both for the input!
When you embark on the stickies remember the tool kit area. That giant cover turns into one big tar ball.
Oh yes, the toolkit box was starting to get sticky at my 599 too. The backside of the seats are also a problem zone for getting sticky. You can be happy when you have the backside in leather or Carbon fibre, both was an option. But very rare what i know, was not a cheap option. Some of the 812 SF and some more of the 812 GTS came with painted shields on the fenders, a 12.000 $ option which was painted at Zanasi by hand. Some 812 owners wrote that there are some specialists in the USA where this also can be done. Daniel
My seat backs are carbon fiber but I'm definitely going to check the tool kit area. Thanks again Daniel and I'm loving the Tubi exhaust!
So I looked at my tool kit area and it's totally pristine because my car has really been in any prolonged heat but I will keep my eye on it. Thank you!
I didn't even realize it was down there; yea TRFM, but why? When I was replacing the battery, uncovered it and my hands were instantly black with tar. So yes, do keep an eye on it. Since it is under the carpet, most probably don't realize it is there.
Don't forget the black strips on the parcel shelf. They go sticky as well. I have not been able to work out how to remove them. If anyone has the 599 manual can chime as to how to remove. I am assuming that the entire parcel shelf has to be removed. There is also the roof console which also goes sticky. As for the shields, mine are held in by 3 screws and have double sided tape or glue holding them in place as well.
Daniel, I have carbon fibre on the sides and the centre seat back is soft touch. t went sticky which I fixed using methylated spirits wiping over with cloths until the stickiness was gone. This was 2 years ago and seat back is still fine.
I went with the Stick on - cloisonne badges. found them on ebay. they come with 3M emblem tape cut to fit on the back. Once they are on - they are on... you'd have to use dental floss to cut them off, and then wax to get the residue off. the originals are indented - and held on by two prongs and bolts. but the sitck on type are virtually the same - perhaps 1-2 mm higher but to the naked eye hard to tell the difference.
