I look at the 599. I see a GT car. A super car in many ways, kind of like an SLR, but marketed as a GT car whereas an SLR is marketed as a sports car of some sort. Like all GT cars, it's relatively heavy. Unlike some GT cars, it performs as well, if not better, than comparably priced super sports cars, despite its inherent "GT-ness". This is just babble right now... In your opinion, is it fun to drive? LET ME CLARIFY BEFORE YOU START ANSWERING Obviously, any fast car is fun to peel out in or accelerate fast in. That's not what I mean. I mean is this a car that gets your viscera excited, that pumps your adrenaline out and makes you grin while effortlessly taking tight curves and corners? Does it feel light on its feet despite being a little heavy? I ask because if I was to own a GT car, it would be at least 4 seats, so I look at the 599 with its two seats and how it really seems more like a true sports car and I wonder if this could be someone's sports car AND GT car...The only car I'd need. Please share your thoughts and I appreciate opinions from those who have driven the car. It helps if you've driven real sports cars, as well, for comparison
You might want to post in the 599/612 forum. From road tests, the car is 'less fun' than the F430 but more comfortable.
It sounds like you've already made up your mind that the 599 is not a GT because it has two seats. Here's my very subjective take. Sports cars are generally hard to drive slowly. Their suspensions are stiff, their interiors are sparse, they have no luggage space and they have very few creature comforts. They are very fast, they are very quick (different things!) they are noisy and they are uncomfortable for anything other than short stints or fast enough stints on a race track where the adrenaline rush cancels out the discomfort. The 599 is not a sports car. The F40 is a sports car - a real sports car! GT's are fast, comfortable, have luggage space, have stereos and more supple suspension so as to not knock your fillings out of your teeth. They feel wonderful at speed on freeways or autobahns or autostradas and they make a definite statement when you pull up to the porte cochere of the Dolder Grand in Zurich, the Hotel De Paris in Monte Carlo or any comparable establishment. They are beautifully finished, both inside and out and they have space for the pilot and a passenger. The 599 is a GT. Oh, yes - the 599 is fun to drive, very fun, all the time!
IMO the 599 should be covered by most medical plans in the section of "re-juvenation therapy" as a non-invasive procedure.
No question it'd be fun to drive...but I do see the point that the 430 would give more of a 'race car' feel, which is a ton of fun. Almost as much as a 355
