Speaking of the EAG 599 conversions, it was interesting to hear Normal Guy Supercar Dan say in his latest Youtube video that his former 599 was the worst, or next to worst, shifting three-pedal car he's ever driven. (Check the 15:00 minute mark in this link for the actual dialogue.) The context is that he and his wife Meg are discussing his latest toy, a Superformance GT40 replica, running a carbureted 427 small block Ford stroker and a five speed transaxle of some sort. What he says is that the GT40 is "probably the hardest or second hardest" manual he's ever driven, and the EAG 599 is the other. NGS Dan started his gearhead addiction with Detroit iron, of which a few may have harbored one of the famously agricultural Muncie or toploader 4-speeds of the day, and since then has owned, sold and/or driven many three-pedal Ferrari 355s, 360s, and 430s, as well as a number of other stick shift imports.
I was at Wil DeGroots shop the other day. He has five 599's in the process of conversion. I think one may be available. I think there's a 612 Scag there also that can be scooped up.
I think EAG uses cables instead of factory rods in their 599 conversions. If that is true it may be the source of the problem.
Does anyone know of an update for the 599 GTO that was being converted in Los Angeles a few years ago?
I can agree with him! I drove the first 599 that EAG ever did and it was the absolute worst manual I had ever driven in my life! Admittedly this car was finished by another company and it was just terrible. The clutch was so heavy and even Doug D made reference to this in his video when he drove it. On the other side of the coin….. One of the best manuals I have driven in my life was a 599 by Exoticars. Just goes to show….. when done right it can make the world of difference! Of all the things that can be different.. How can it be the clutch? Like I get if the linkages/cables aren't set up properly it can be ****ty... But the clutch? Presumably they're using the factory part (or a similarly sized master cylinder...how tf can you screw that up)
my favorite part of the driving emotions add is where is describes red as a rare color on the 599 haha
I can’t say for sure, but I know a few people have tried different clutch master cylinders with the wrong bore. A common one is the 612 clutch master, which fits quite easily, but has a bigger bore so gives a heavy pedal with a short throw. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
#153027 is now for sale by Motorcar Classics with 5,673MI for $874,900. Below is the link to the listing. https://www.motorcarclassics.com/2007-ferrari-599-gtb-fiorano-c-1259.htm Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had to laugh at that price especially given the cost of the conversion and the fact that these are now being done at multiple places in multiple continents.....
Factory Manual will always trade at elevated levels over conversions, there's like 40 of em and it's easily verified what's an original manual vs conversion. These things aren't explained using utilitarian principles, just be happy sitting on the side with a bag of popcorn watching the numbers go up is my strategy for these things
#146539 again in the market by Modena Motorsport GMBH. 34,394KM with POA. https://www.classicdriver.com/en/car/ferrari/599/2008/1004811
Indeed, but first registration was around 2008, thus most ads this far wrongly label it as a 2008 manufactured car.
My own 599, which was a 2007 (maybe manufactured in 2006, I would need more research to find out if I have some documentation), had VIN 148943. In addition, if the list of options is correct, it shows a 2006/2007 car since from 2008 the carbon ceramic discs were standard and therefore should not appear in an option list. edit: first registration in France was Jan. 2007, but I think the warranty / maintenance booklet mentioned an older production date.
