I have a 2008 GTB with a slight leather shrinkage only on dash cluster. Appears the steering wheel must be removed to access the 2 screws holding this on.. Has anyone done this job before? And or removed the steering wheel?

    Thanks!

I believe another FChat member has done this work. If I recall, his FChat name is 360modena2003. Like you, I need to tackle this, likely this coming winter. Frank

    Hi Brian,

I have removed the steering wheel on my 599. First you should disconnect the airbag (fuse 50 under the dashboard). There are 2 screws on the side that hold the airbag. Remove the soft plastic cover on top of the screws and the screws. Once you have done that remove and disconnect the airbag (can be a bit hard to disconnect - I used a plastic tool). When the airbag is out unscrew the nut that holds the steering wheel. In terms of screws and nuts that is it. You will need some specific tools for the 2 screws and nuts. Also Ferrari recommends to change all of them to new if you unscrew them even once and they all have to be tighten at a specific torque.

I bought the below from eBay and the replacement screws, washers and nuts from eurospares:
Draper 1x Expert 24mm 1/2" Square Drive Deep Impact Socket Professional Tool
Draper Expert 1/2" Torque Wrench with Digital Display 12097 DTW-12
Security Tamper proof Torx star screwdriver bit (TH30 will do)

check also this thread from another F-Chat member with pictures:

For the torque I can't remember for sure. I think 50Nm for the steering wheel nut.

    I hope it helps!
    Cheers,
    Olivier.

Do you need to remove the steering wheel to take-off the gauge pod/dash cover? Thanks.

No. Only remove 3 screws holding on cover around steering wheel, then 2 Philips screws hold the entire cluster on lift up and pull gently towards you and it's off!

Total of 5 screws remove everything

Reviving this thread. It's time for me to redo the leather around the instrument cluster. Does anyone know where the 3 screws are securing it around the steering wheel. Thanks!

Thank you Fernando! Appreciate the pictures and the tip about the steering wheel. Did you need to recover the leather also?

    Leather was all fine.

Unfortunately, after nearly six weeks, my cluster is back but the problem persists.
It seems it is not the usual common fault, as it blinks at wish.
I have not been able to find a pattern/cause nor have these guys.

I´ll keep my eyes on the yellow counter and my ears close to the window (as I always do :) and forget about this gimmick for a while :)

Isn't the problem caused by a nearly dead battery?
