First off I want to say that I am a massive fan of the 599 and its latest version, the 599 GTO, although I am not a fan of the GTO moniker being utilized on it. That is a topic for a different thread all together. Regardless, I absolutely love the front engine V-12 cars and I have been pondering the evolution of the 599.

Will the next 599 have GTO performance standard, as in the 360cs and the 430, the 430 scud and the 458?

If so do you think it detracts from the 599 GTO? I personally think it would not that it matters one blink. I LOVE the 599 GTO, I love the sound, the shape, the performance, the rawness, everything. I found myself thinking if I could just have one of those, I would keep it forever, a thought that is only reserved for some very very special cars. Then I really began to think about it... Could I really live with the 599 GTO forever? And then it hit me... how good will the next car be...

would this sway you from purchasing one? Would it taint the GTO for you?

    No.

There's always something faster ready to come out.

You can either always get the latest and greatest as soon as it comes out or you can simply enjoy what you have to the fullest without worrying too much.

Every Ferrari is a special car in its own right and the GTO is a fantastic machine. To my eyes it will be as stunning in the years to come as it is now.

You can, of course, wait a couple of years for the 599's replacement and see if you like it. However, once that comes out, there will shortly be rumors of a handling pack. So you'll wait another couple of years. Then the will be rumors of special edition. And then...

You only live once. IMO, if you can, get the GTO and enjoy it . Who cares about the rest. Keep it for a life, drive it a million miles and be happy :)

    +1....

There are faster and better handling cars than the Daytona, 288 GTO, F40, F50 and even the Enzo.

Indeed, the 599 GTO could be said to be a "better car" than all of them. But, that fact remains that these are special, reveered and iconic cars.

Whether or not you believe that the 599 GTO will be accorded a place historically along with these cars--I happen to think in years to come it'll be looked at in a similar light to the 288 or F40, the car is a classic front engined Ferrari 12 cyl, and a fantastic engineering and visual feat to boot. And, it happens--at least for a while--to hold the title of the fasted production car ever built by Ferrari.

Buy one if love this type classic--and use it as its meant to be used. Worry about what comes next, when it comes next. But trust me, anyone who bought the follow up "new new" thing to the 288, wishes today he'd instead bought the GTO.
