What are GTO owners doing during the initial break-in period? Dealers are saying that since the cars are run at the track before delivery, there is no need to baby them the first few hundred miles.

I was told that as long as I didn't push my GTO to its maximum revs per gear CONSTANTLY. While keeping it there for EXCESSIVELY long periods of time for the first 500/600 miles. We were good...It's been my experience that the harder I push her......."Within Reason"...... The entire experience/package just keeps getting better and better

I will give you odds the owners manual still says not to exceed 5000 rpm for the first 620 miles/1000 km. If it were my $0.5M car, I would adhere to that.

Well in my view these cars are pretty much driven hard on the factory test drive, then our case the dealer drives them so by the time the customer gets the car its already been driven fairly hard. What I think is best avoided is constant high revs like 6500 rpm in 2nd gear for 5 minutes and that sort of thing. In the old days when running in was more common the procedure with most cars was to vary engine speed and load for those first few 100 kms.

From what I saw, about 10 hours on the bench and then into a car.

I took delivery of mine on a Friday. Drove it the next Monday to Spa and took it straight on to the track. It had about 500 kms at that time. I was told by the dealer not to worry and could drive it at all settings all the way to red line. I did take it "easy" the first 250 kms for the tranny and the tires.

Car now has over 5,000 kms and has been running flawless.
