I have a question for all you gurus out there ...

As this if my first Ferrari, I do not know whether this would be considered "normal" or not ...

At (approx.) speeds between 220-270 kmph, I find the car gets extremely skittish. It does not feel planted. But once she crosses, say, 290 kmph or so, the stability returns.

My earlier car was a Lamborghini Superleggera and I understand the difference in feel between 2-wheel & 4-wheel drive cars ... but I find the car feels very light to the point of "feeling" unsafe even at relatively lower speeds.

Any of you feel the same? Or is it just me? Or perhaps something I should have checked?

Shouldn't happen. Don't know the exact circumstances of how you were pushing her.But I've always found my GTO to be extremely well planted. Uphill, downhill, level ground never felt any lift or any twitchyness of any kind...... at any speed. She will however show her dark side if your doing something she doesn't like. I'd have her checked out pronto. Good Luck,Be Safe and please let us know how this turns out.

tnx for your comments mate ...

i've actually given the car in to the dealer this morning for a thorough check ... better safe than sorry ...

and you are right ... there's no reason for the skittish behaviour ...

    thanks again.

& will keep you posted on the outcome.

Maybe something wrong with the tires? Did you change them and after that, the problem occured? Had something similar with my 599. Regards-e

I would of guessed tires as well or possibly tire pressure.

seriously though MP, maybe you need to take the guys across the creek and show them what 220/270km/h feels like .. then they'll know what scary is and admit there is a problem

Does it happen on any road ?... Or just a particular road that you tend to enjoy more than others? The reason I ask is that when I owned a 433 Scud. I used to track her at a local club. A portion of the track had a slight dip on a major straightaway. If I was moving fast enough an air pocket would actually form in the dip and lift my front tires completely off the pavement for what seemed like an eternity...... A very scary feeling indeed! If I was traveling just a few mph faster or slower when I hit that dip....no problems and no lift. Maybe you just need to change roads or your speed :)>)!

well I'd make them sign an insurance waiver ;) .. I'm sure someone must be brave enough to jump in the seat next to you. You know I'd do it but I'm not sure my opinion would matter.

I owned a 2008, 600 hp Viper which gave me the same problems once I reached 120 mph. It scared the crap out of me. I bought this car brand new and thought everything should be ok. I took the car in to re-balance the wheels which we found that 2 of the rims were out of the tollerence's given for that wheel/rim. The manufacture sent me new rims which once balanced with the Hunter balancer, the viper was fine at the high speeds, very smooth and not twitchy. If it were me I would at least have the wheels professionaly balanced, and that means sometimes the dealer is not qualified or does not have the right tools or know how to do it.

    Good luck

the feel of the steering doesn't change per se ... but in that speed band, the car feels like it's being driven on a loose surface, like gravel ...
