Another strange thing happened the day before I gave the car in to the shop ...

Going over a bridge (nothing steep), 4th gear in full auto, manettino in "wet" mode, 60 kmph, foot OFF the accelerator ...

Was raining, so in centre lane, away from drains, running/still water, etc ...

The rear end fishtailed !!! Fortunately I caught it or would certainly have spun around ...

    Now I'm officially scared !!!

    Any thoughts folks?

    update ...

picked up the car yesterday ... the only aberration they found was that they had to remove 5g of weight from one of the rear tyres.

i'm hoping that this imbalance may have been the cause of the instability. will take it for a run on the weekend and see how it goes.

    fingers crossed.

Have you driven it since they removed the weight, even at low speeds?

At those speeds it is like a race car. My suggestion is a full race style alignment check.
Corner weights, ride height, camber adjustment, toe out--In setting and last just before any ride like that check the tire pressures yourself.

I am sure the car was tested at the Fiorano circuit at high speed but alignments do change particularly during the first few hundred miles.

You want confidence witht the car. A knowledgeable shop can also suggest some changes if it is still not right after that.

Stradale's can be a very sensitive to camber and ride height so my shop added some negative camber to make my car less nervous. Just an idea.

I usually do over 300km/h run everytime I drive my car.
    I feel your pain.
My car showed somewhat fearful reaction one time.
Changed parts, balance, alignment and pretty much everything with no correction.
    It was tire after all.
So, when time comes you will need new tires, why not buy ones now and try it.

It happend when I put new tires on.
I did everything suggested with no result.
Tire change was the last thing I tried, but should have done it from day one.
Didn't expected tire defect for once, and after all those troubles, even after resolution, I lost interest for the car and sold it.
    Just from my experience.

    Get new tires.

Keep the old set if that's not the answer. You will need them anyway.

If it is the tires, the tire warranty should cover it.

    Hope this works out.

    Hello Max

I did 3 breakfast runs recently on the NSHW , first time i drive the GTB up , tyre pressure was at 2.2 Front and 2.1 Rear when cold . Have the same feeling as you during 210 - 260 km/h . Did not push it further .

Second run , i release the tyre pressure to 2.0 Front and 1.9 rear , run was almost prefect . No more such feelings at all . Ride felt planted at all speeds , up to 310km/h .

Third Run , same results as second run .

Going for another one this Sunday , have just increased the Tyre pressure today to 2.3 Front and 2.1 Rear . Will let you know if that unstable feeling comes back .

Stock GTB , running 20 inch wheels .

Then I would consider it as tire break in...
Every new tires need at least 400-500kms of runin

Maybe it was a difference in road quality? I felt that the road we travelled on the first time you took your car up to 300+ was significantly bumpier than the roads we've been travelling on over the past few days.

I think the wieght and rebalance on the wheel/rims worked for you, it did for me.

Sometimes a good rebalance person will move the tire over the rim to help off set the rim problems/defects from the manufacture so the rim will need less weight when balanced correctly with the tire imperfections as well. With the 5g of balance wieght removed and a good balance job may have solved or help solve the problem. Sometimes the car manufactures rush this step to get the car out to the public. That is why some wheel balancer machines are better than others. Hunter balancer puts a load on the wheel as it rotates to simulate real world road conditions and tells the guy exactly where to place the wieght for best performance while measuring the rim fro being true and within the manufactures tollerances.

possible, but did not feel like it was the road ...

i'm hoping it was just that extra 5g ...

even so, i'm meeting the local michelin boys to do a full check on their machines ...

That doesn't seem right at all. Why don't you grab one of the service guys at your local dealership and take him for a spin. Take care of it as soon as possible.

I haven't been at 300k lately but sometimes full tread depth tires squirm at speed. Now that the tires are worn it may have stopped.
