I love Ferrarology
Was there a change over time? My VIN is 178911 & I have the thick ones. Anybody have a higher VIN & thin ones?
Olivier- True, but normally he is more interested in older Ferraris and the supercars and limited production models, plus pure race cars.
This car used to be in British Columbia. Are you in Canada or the states? Colors aside, were the wheels themselves an option? Could someone order a 599 GTO with thick spokes instead of thin spokes or vice versa? Or were the thin-spoked wheels the only wheel available, and then later replaced? Now that I know that there's a spoke width difference with the GTO wheels, I'll start notating it whenever I see a 599 GTO. Are you just teasing me, or do you really not remember your serial number? Professional indeed. Has anyone seen him lately? Oh, Marcel's interest isn't narrowed to the vintage cars; he also takes note of the limited production contemporary models as well (Enzos, 599 GTOs, Apertas, etc.).
I'm in the states. Just outside of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. I bought the car from a Porsche dealer in Cleveland, Ohio. Car started in Vancouver. Was owned by Reiko Mackenzie - one of the "Real Housewives of Vancouver". At least the car is real. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cool, thanks for the information! I just noticed that the P540 Superfast Aperta has Y-spoke GTO wheels. Are these the thick-spoked wheels, or thin? Early on, this car was equipped with other, ugly wheels; I'm thrilled that the owner changed to a more stylish and fitting wheel design. The first wheels sported by the SuperFast were the VERY beautiful and VERY popular 599 challenge wheels. http://cartype.com/pics/7783/full/ferrari_p540_superfast_aperta_2_10.jpg
I stand by my statement. Those wheels look terrible on that car. Also notice that, at some point, the caliper color changed - maybe when the wheels changed.
Classiche book shows BBS wheels for the 1st type (thin), here is a photo of the BBS wheels on a 911 - design is very similar (but not identical) to GTO's design. Thicker design is probably manufactured by Apptech, if someone has the thicker wheels it might be written somewhere in the Classiche book Thanks ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have the thick spoke wheels and my Classiche book says BBS. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks to all, thick and thin Y spoke design seems to be manufactured by same company : BBS. So back to the question, why was it changed :-( thanks to all for your help ! Personally i have the thin design, VIN 174759. Image Unavailable, Please Login
