Carbon brakes were a $19,000 option for MY 2007,then became standard for MY 2008 and later. Steel brakes are scarce on 599s,and are much cheaper to maintain. Use the lack of carbon brakes to negotiate a good price and then enjoy the car. And who knows-the speculators may jump on steel-brake 599s the way they jumped on stick-shift 599s and your car will skyrocket in value.

 

Non Ceramic wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if you can get a good deal on her.

 

Is this 599 you're looking at dark red (Rosso Mugello) in Canada?

 

No difference from a braking performance aspect.
Better pedal feel.

 

I think if you want to track the car, you want the ceramic brakes. That's where you will see a difference.

 

Also ceramic brakes keep your alloy wheels clean (priceless in my opinion) and look better!

 

Some moment you have to replace the CCM brakes. (yes you do) That would cost you about 15-18k. For me a reason to go for standard brakes.

Really depends on the use of the car - the drawback of the steel brakes is that they are smaller, so even besides overheating they cannot provide the same performance as the CCM brakes (whereas steel brakes of the same sizes would provide the same initial performance but would be subject to earlier fading due to overheating).
The upside of steel brakes is that they are significantly cheaper to maintain (as mentioned), and the cost difference for the CCM may be considered too high compared to the performance benefits.

 

The steel brakes will provide the same performance relative to stopping distance. No difference in daily driving. The steel brakes have better overall feel.
the CCM will be more consistent during repeated use and track use.

 

Honestly would kind of depend on the wheels for me. I had challenge rims on my 599 and the brake dust would have killed me having to clean them if I didn't have carbon ceramics. If you just have the base wheels or pentagrams probably no big deal.
