Hi Just came home from a Ferrari one make amature race called Ferrari Trophy held in Motegi Twin Ring Circuit. It was my 1st Ferrari race and my 2nd time at this track. The condition was heavy rain. The 599 is just straight from the dealer, no adjustments whatsoever. Raced against tweaked 355, Modena, Challenge Stradale and 430s. I must say I am not the best driver with very limited track expirience. 3 class of cars, 22 cars entered, qualified 9th. Race was up to 5th when I spun, back to 7th, passed onecar again and came in 6th on a 10 lap race. I won the Stradale A Class Due to rain, used sports mode. Tire had to warm up first 2 laps, did the best on the 6th lap and started lossing traction and spun on 7th. The car was probably the most high ride in terms of clearence, and compared to intensively modified and tuned, rain tire and S tire cars it is absolutely wonder and fast on the track as it is. I encourage trackers to take not just their SC or challenge cars, but their 599's and beat your best record. Oh by the way I see here a lot of arguments about 599, it being a GT car etc.. on and on. Make no mistake about it, it is the easiest to drive, never tiring, mild sounding and FASTEST SUPERCAR you will find in the market today. If you read my post, then can you also imagine this I drove about 200km to the circut. Car has 3000km on it. I practiced 1 day before the race for 2 30min session. 1 heavy rain and 1 no rain wet road session. I used some 2nd gear but not much of it due to an advise by a semi pro racer. Next day I did qualify and pushed it hard, 30 min. Then another practice 20min. Then race, using a lot of 2nd geat inthe corners, reving at 5k+ up to limit on by steering, of course I am racing. On the way back home, the CLUTCH and BRAKES felt JUST THE SAME as when I left the house for the track 2 days ago. The car consumes gas and lots of it, otherwise it is just an amazine car. I had many porsches that I tracked and had clutch, brake problems on my 1 day track day home. If you are just touring or driving to dinner, you will never ever be able to fully appreciate the capability and relaiability of this car. It eats CS and 430 for breakfast on long straights. The carbon brake is a must. My friends 430 stock brakes melted on the track after a few laps. Excuse my bad composition and misspelling.
Bravo Francis. I will still give my 599 a miss on the track but I applaud you for doing so and winning a trophy!!!
Francis, congrats on winning the race ! That's awesome news, and I am so honoured to have gone for a drive with you! Just settling into HK and still thinking about the right car to get. Saw a 1yr old 612 with a full HGTC pack that sounds pretty interesting. 599's here have a long 2-year wait list..... as much as I like the 599, I think it'll have to wait for a while as I would like to spec one exactly to my own preference; something alone the some colour combination of my previous 430. When are you next in HK ? Be sure to drop me a line.
That is just fantastic. Is your car stick shift or F1? I ask because you mention how the clutch feels. I find the 599 to be very well judged. Really quite fine and as far as the haters go- let them hate- Ill be happily driving along. best regards, Jerry
My car has no roll cage, it should, that is why I am in cat II and not cat I with the 360 challenge. 355 challenge was in the same group.
BTW, obviously being a race, I had to put on a tow hook on the car. I found one supplied as usual in the tool box in the trunk. However, the pitch of the tow hook hole and the tow hook is diffrent and did not fit. Just so all you 599 know, this may be the case with your car as well. Tracking or not, getting stuck in the rain, you will want to be pulled by the hook so that your frame does not mess up. If you have a chance, just try the hook, it may not fit like mine, or maybe it was the case of a single mistake. Just so you know....
This is truly what these cars are built for! Enjoy in good health sir, and many many miles of joy!!! Congrats! Best, Jon
Salute! I saw the 599Tour cars here....this is a Real World Machine. Congratulations to you on your result, and Welcome!!
What you have done is truly noble. I think it is the very essence of what road Ferraris should be continue doing. Congratulations for the win!
