I’ve owned my 599 Grigio/Cuoio since June 2023 and knew I’d have to get to dealing with the leather shrinkage issue and sticky plastics at some point once I found the right folks to do the work. Most people say “sticky buttons”, but my situation included sticky door vents and a sticky steering cowl which were also in a Cuoio shade, and it was absolutely beyond salvaging with rubbing alcohol and a soft rag. The leather around the dash vents, gauge cluster cowl, and air vents had really pulled away as well.

Leather upholstery: I was referred by a fchatter to Hugo at HSFabworks local in SoCal for mobile service on upholstery. Hugo’s expertise is disassembly/reassembly on interiors, and he partners with an upholstery shop who does high quality work- matching materials down to the stitching thread and spacing to match Ferrari factory work. He came to me, took half a day to disassemble the entire interior carefully, so the car stayed in my care in my garage- and turned things back around in about 1-2 weeks. I’m very happy with the work, and it was competitively priced against some of the big shops commonly suggested, including the shop I knew Ferrari of Newport Beach uses. Hugo was super professional, a great communicator, and quality of craftsmanship was all top notch from my experience.

For my sticky Cuoio plastics, I went with Dave at StickyRX. He did pure magic. My old pieces were absolutely tragic. Fingerprints, dust, scratches, and lint included. Dave was also great to work with. He reached out and called to verify the interior color match and shade when he noticed the the final pieces didn’t quite match the leather piece for the steering column. We weren’t sure if it was a different Cuoio variant or just attributed to natural variant colors in the hide, but he called to troubleshoot with me and wanted to make sure I was happy with the results. I also went with new Reverse and Auto buttons from Dave and they make such a visual difference! My previous buttons had an inferior painted fix, and for the first time since the car was probably new- everything feels unapologetically fresh and pristine!

    After:
    Comparison notes
    - passenger airbag is original leather next to upper dash recovered, really great color match
    - stitching around the circular air vents match factory
    - stitching and leather comparison of upper and mid dash recovered compared to original lower dash/glove box areas.

The defroster vents have the outer tips flexing up. The heat and sun aging causes them to break. I would suggest that you loosen the nuts a bit and add some Loctite to keep them from backing off. I have considered getting some made in aluminum but I haven't done that yet.

I had to replace the vents. Did you get new ones or reuse? If you reused them, I would be even more concerned because the effort to tear apart the dash is huge. You already know that.

My original vents were in bad shape, but I didn’t want to pay for new factory crappy plastic ones and didn’t have time to do another offshoot project to have something better machined for the money. So we bent the old ones back into a little better shape to recondition it, and my plan is when I get around to it, its attached a bit more loosely I’d break into it a different way and replace with something better made.

There is already a 360 guy with aluminum vents just for the 360. In FerrariAds above. Maybe he would try making some for the 599.

The 360 vents are pretty basic and not replicas of the originals, I put a set on my 360 many years ago. For the 599 I would want something close to OEM look so I considered the same thing you did but had too many projects still in flight.

If you want them to look OEM they probably need to be machined. That requires a good mechanical model and a pretty fancy CNC setup. Maybe they can be cast, I haven't thought through that approach enough. I have my old vents that can be used to make models or molds. The tips are broken off my old set but they are flat near the ends so it isn't a huge issue. The vents help hold down the leather so we need to think through how to bolt them down, from the bottom like the OEM is not easy. I have a couple of ideas but again, haven't thought through this one enough.

If you get to this LMK and I would be in for a set. I will eventually get to this project but not for at least a year.

yep, just scooted the seats as far back as they could go and kept them covered with a moving blanket. Didn’t need to remove.
