Anyone have any issues with a noise from the 599 while turning at any speed or turning in any direction other than straight? The techs at the dealer said that it's some kind of servo noise and is normal on all 599's.. I seriously find this hard to believe..

    Thanks

I get that too, like a high pitch "ummmmmmmmmmmmmm" while turning . . . dealer told me it could be the diffrential oil, they also told me that all 599s have the same problem!

anyway its due in for the oil, next week i will update you guys if it made a diffrence.

It sounds like either a hydraulic moan of the rack/ps pump, or the LSD moan. I don't think it is very loud outside the car, but does anyone know? It seems intermittent, but more at low speeds, temps don't make much of a diff. Had it in 100 degree and 40 degree weather both. Could be louder in cabin since rack and diff are hard mounted to tub, alloy transmits sound and can amplify it. Does it at shallow and large turning angles, so diff less likely. FNA says "they all do that". Probably going to kill our resale, may even get down to MSRP ;). I do turn up the radio and use lower gears. LMK if you guys hear it outside the car, I tried window down and it was not helpful.

Ferrari wants a quarter million for the car and dealers are getting a heck of a lot more for them than that and they can't won't fix an annoying problem that ALL of them have?! Wow, that is really telling. Not one factory test driver noted they car is making an annoying sound?

Actually, it's more than a third of a mil, and most of us here paid MSRP, gladly. :D
It isn't a problem, it is an occasional noise when parking and driving low speeds, <5mph. I didn't hear it through car window in my office garage . So, no, it isn't telling. Every car I've ever owned has made various noises. Even my 928GTS did, when it would start ;).
Car actually has been most sorted modern Ferrari I've owned, and far better built than many cars I've owned. I suspect more than a few of us here who have them would agree.

You won't get any arguments from me on the 928 comment! All 8 of mine have made or do make funny noises... I am a sucker for the unloved! Actually it is just a matter of need... Spinal Cord Injury (no use of anything below about nipple level) so I need an automatic trans and room for a wheelchair. You just can't hardly get that in a 911...well, not and bring a friend along for the ride anyway. I do love my GTS's though! I have not driven them back to back w/ any F-cars but have w/ a 996TT and while that is CLEARLY a much faster car, there were times when I would have preferred one of the GTS's. I did 800 miles on all kinds of roads so I got a good feel for the TT. Would like to have put it on the track, but there were no local track events that I could get into that weekend.

How many folks are on the boards here and how many do you think track their Ferrari's? Just curious... I have no idea if there are 100 people here or 1000 people reading stuff here.

I would gladly suffer through any funny noises that a 599 would like to make at me!

I drove a 599 all day yesterday, and I noticed that noise. It was a tad unsettling and offputting. I thought it might have been something flexing in the dash at first. Very wierd. If I owned it, it would drive me looney.

It is definately annoying.. It sounds like something is rubbing.. sometimes I can feel it through the steering wheel. I'm definately going to take it into the shop and have them look at this.. if nothing else, I want them to show me specifically what the source of this is.

Just got word from the tech that the problem is definitely related to the gearbox and LSD. Apparently there is a new oil that they have been testing from Shell that remedies this problem and they are shipping some over from Italy next week. Once they get it put in, I will post the results..

You have GOT to be kidding me?!!! They haven't received the oil in from Italy yet.. so I'm still waiting. I do know that when they changed out the oil with the same type of oil the noise was considerably less, but still present... and then after putting some miles on it, the noise became progressively worse and back to the same level before I put it in the shop. I will post an update once I get the new oil installed.. however, based on your results, I'm not going to hold my breath on this getting fixed.

Mine makes no such noise. There is a slight creaking sound when turning the steering wheel slowly, like when maneuvering around a parking lot or driveway... about 2,800 miles on the clock..

    best regards,

Have 1200 miles on my 599. I have absolutely no idea what you guys are talking about. Mine has no annoying noises what so ever. Thank God! The kind of noises your describing would drive me crazy! This oil thing sounds like somebody is blowing smoke up your **s. Don't pi** on my shoes and tell me its raining outside. You better have a serious conversation with this dealer. If you can't get any satisfaction I'd be talking to FNA. This is a 500K Ferrari not a Fiat.

Mine did this, particularly noticeable when pulling out Left or Right out of a T Junction, I was convinced it was the LSD/ Diff however oddly it didn't always do it in what appeared to be near identical circumstances, I'm hoping the new one will be better!

I spent most of the day with the tech while he was troubleshooting this issue, as I wanted the real deal and not some shoulder shrug and a "best guess" answer.. the tech placed sound and vibration sensors all over the car and it was determined that the noise was definitely coming from the gearbox/LSD.
The noise also disappears the second you put the car in neutral while turning. The tech called FNA tech support, told them what he found and they told him this was definitely the LSD and they were working on a resolution and were confident that this "new" Shell oil would fix the issue. Interestingly enough, while I was at the dealership later in the week, a 599 with a manual gearbox and less than 600 miles came in with the same exact issue.. in fact, the noise was even greater than what I was experiencing.

IT'S FIXED!! Just got my car back yesterday and the noise is 100% gone! The new Shell gearbox oil arrived and according to the tech at the shop, he received a tech bulletin with a very complex set of instructions from Ferrari on how to properly drain the system and add this new oil.. it took the tech about 5 hours to complete.
