Recently saw the Ferrari lineup at the car show, and dropped all thoughts of what my next car would be. Ferrari all the way! Then the question becomes: Which one?? Love the looks of both the 458 and 599 for different reasons. Both would be a great ride to tool around town in. I have test driven both, but they were brief rides, mostly on a freeway. Hard to judge with such a short ride. My brief: --- Would be a daily driver for errands in a major metropolitan area. I work out of my home, so commuting is not an issue. --- I will do some track days, but it is not a priority. --- Twisties and long stretches of B roads would be the majority of the paces that I would put this car through. I have another vehicle, so this is not a one-size-fits-all car. I have owned Porsche's, but have grown weary of the Teutonic spartan-ness of the interiors; Ferrari, too me, is the real sport /GTcar that I have wanted. Is the 599 going to fill the bill for what I want, or am I better off with a 458? Different cars, I know. Front vs. mid engine. Sport vs. sport/GT. What do you feel are the attributes that set the 599 apart? Order times on the 599? Am I better off buying used to bump up in line, or is that just what the dealer says to get me to buy a car? Do you want to turn more heads or less? Care much about creature comforts or prefer to scrap ever last ounce for performance? You might want to post a general question in a general forum. The 612/599 forum doesn't get a fraction the posts the others do. Since this is said forum, if 599 and tracking, you want the HGTE gear. If you want to turn heads though, not spend a ton, a 360 Modena will definitely do the trick. Fun drive. Not the fastest thing on the planet, but it's the sexiest. I wanna warn you off and say to go for the 430, much better car overall, but the 360 is a hell of a first ferrari. I had people running off the road to take pics and video. My 430 doesn't get nearly the attention, and it's not all that different. Funny. The 360's just sexier. Other end of the spectrum, want to fly under the radar completely, get a 612 in gray.
I own a couple of Pcars and an Aston and I must say that the 599 is the best car I have. A great drive, great looks and, if you get it without shields, still a bit below the radar. You can probably find some great deals on low milage examples at the moment and see if you want to pony up to order its successor. If you want the attention, get a red 430 Scud... Good luck!
used to have both, now 458 still here, so long story short, 458>599. but with the recent cheap prices for slightly used 599s, its very tempting. if u got the means, 458.
