I have just finished conversation with my dealer in Germany. He told me that 599 Spider launch is in Ferrari plans for near future. Ferrari decided to make 599 Spider, after monitoring the SLR Roadster launch and market success. It will be not 599 production line closing model as 575 SA. 599 Spider will be produced in limited numbers and it will take 599 line success to new level. Now Ferrari is working on some extraordinary roof construction to make car totally unique. My dealer suggests 599 Spider will be launched late 2008 or early 2009, so it means Paris or Detroit.

My dealer offered to pay deposit to secure one of the first 599 Spider for German market with delivery in 2009 and assured me that his information is 101% true and I can trust him. So I do not know if I have to trust my dealer, because I have never heard any similar information here and around the net. So any sort of similar or opposite information will be greatly appreciated in advance.

A Spider has been rumoured for sometime and in conversations with dealers in the UK it does seem to be expected, I had the conversation back in April that I might defer my 599 order to a Spider if it was announced. I know of one Enzo/ F40 owner who told me he is on the list for an early car and was told it was a Photochromic roof similar to the SA but the operation would not flip but slide back in some way (perhaps like the Porsche 911 Targa?) so certainly lots of rumours

Was the SLR with no roof a success? Haven't noticed that.

599 Spider should look absoloutely breathtaking :)

I dont like SLR at all, this car is not my cup of tee. But, still SLR Roadster is more succefull than SLR Coupe, at least in Europe. All car mags in Europe agreed that SLR needed to be Roadster from the very begining.

I hardly wait for more information about 599 Spider. This car seems to be something unique and extraordinary. Best.

Do you know if it will be like the 550 Barchetta? or the 575M Superamerica?

Or will it have an an actual convertible softtop like the F430 Spider?

Huge success - McLaren can't paint and assemble them quick enough.

So there clearly is a market for such a pricey "proper" convertible (not just removable roof panels like the CGT or MC12).

But making a successful convertible out of a 599 is a very different technical proposition to the SLR (carbon tub, torsional rigidity, etc).

Yes. There is market for real big super-roadster. And right now SLR Roadster is more successfull than SLR Coupe was. Many car mags in Europe supposed that SLR needed to be the Roadster from the very beginning.

Be sure, Ferrari will be able to do it. Best.

A design to replace the round rear window dome will be a challenge. Cant even imagine it but new design from F always grows on us. I assume the side and rear silhouette will look completely different. The high rear may have to be adjusted maybe to avoid making it look like a stagecoach.

I want to see how they are going to handle the proportions, but IMO they should do away with the roundedness as in the 550 Barchetta and stick with a more straight edged theme... No 575 Superamerica pollen-dish style roof trick either. They need to develop a retractable hard top. End of story.

    Best,
    Jon

I had two hours phone talk with my dealer. We were discussing my 430 Scuderia final colours and selected options. I am getting my Scuderia this December and today is last day to make final speccing. And also my dealer one more time confirmed that 599 Spider is very close future.

I spoke with guy from Ferrari Deutschland and he also confirmed that SLR Roadster's big market success inspired Ferrari to launch 599 Spider sooner as expected. This Ferrari convertible will be launched next Autumn or at least during Detroit auto show in January 2009. Now Ferrari is working on some extraordinary roof construction to make car totally unique. 599 Spider will have 640 HP engine, 20 HP more than 599 GTB.

That is all information my dealer have as for now, but he promissed to keep me updating, because I really want to order one and put down my name for it.

I was at Mclaren today watching them make the SLR roadster and it is true they cannot make enough, interesting news on the 599 Spider, if it's announced before June i might well switch my order

As others have said, it really has. Park Place Mercedes says they've had a ton of folks putting deposits down or thinking about a SLR Roadster. Of course, the car just doesn't seem successful now because they're just not all on the road yet. I say, in 2-4 months, we'll see a bunch on the street (And in the used showrooms....).

Photoshop that already appeared in multiple threads.

I'm working on a real one with completely new design, though.

My dealer just returned from F-factory with very good news - 599 Spider confirmed. 599 Spider will be launched next year and will be equipped with unique roof and will little bit more powerfull than 599 GTB - 640 HP instead of 620 HP. I hope so much that this information is true. Best.

Is it going to be the same type of roof as the 575 Superamerica, or something similar to what Porsche does on the Targa?

I'm truly hoping for a simple ,electric assisted fabric top ,not that stupid origami so favored lately by everybody ,from MB to Peugeot...

My dealer told me that it will be unique construction roof, it will not be flipping back and staying in this position when roof is down as it was on 575 SA, but slide back and it will be invisible when roof is down. My dealer told me that Ferrari will use all latest achievement used on 575 SA and 612 Sessanta to make 599 Spider's roof unique masterpiece. And there is a confirmation to what my dealer have told me from other very respectfull F-chat member:

I hope this will bring clarity to this question. But still we can only wait, hope and try to predict what it will be looking like. Best.

But fabric tops are looking very dated. Just look at SLR Roadster, it will look much more better in hardtop roadster version - that is what all European car mags have said.

So I suppose it is great if Ferrari will make 599 Spider's roof unique and like no one else. But that is only my opinion. Best.
