Not that my little opinion matters, is there a Poll somewhere on this styling that the 612 and 599 embrace. The innovations and performance are magnificent. I just dont see young boys around the world dreaming of owning this car when they grow up. I remember and have seen the passion that some of the older cars created. Sure would enjoy seeing a simple poll if people embrace this look whole heartly. I have a hunch that the best indicator will be our dollars we are willing to pony up 10 years down the road. The 456 is a great example of this. I think 10 years from now a 360/430 will have more appeal, than this car despite the innovations and performance. When I was young I had several Countach and Boxer posters in my room, in fact hanging in my study, I still have a framed with non-glare glass wingless red Countach, parked in a dim building; with a single light over it, awesome picture. My nephew has an Enzo picture hanging on his wall.

At first I thought ugly duckling. But just as the story goes, after a few more glances, it's a swan.

    Just like the F430.

I first though to myself, "What has Ferrari done?"

Now I've realized that it's a fanstatic looking car.

    I still think 355>360>430, 456>612, and now the 550/575>599. I'm still stuck in the 90s I guess.

I think it looks great, and from what I have read about the performance I like it even better. All the modern Ferrari's you should wait until you see in person before passing judgement...

The only modern Ferrari that I think looks wierd is the way the roof lays on the top of the Superamerica trunk.

Ugly duck. But IMO it would be hard to top the classically gorgeous looks of the 550/575.

You could see easily that nowadays , for true supercars producers , form follows function , and not the either way around, for obvious reasons.

    Oh yeah, now that's obvious.

How many miles of road are there on earth where you can really drive that fast ?
2000 ? (i only account 1000 miles of german useable autobahn where traffic is still ok)

So it's really soooooooooo important that form follows function you know.
And for track cars, simply ALL roadcars are lose.

So what's the point of making them ugly anyway ? I don't get it.

For the 599, i'd say it's a swan, but a darn ugly one. I still prefer the 550/575.
And i also stick to the 90s for some reason

like new ferraris, it has lot´s of air entries and is less harmonious then 550/575.
it looks good with the challenge-like wheels but the "shuriken" ones are a no-no...

This, would end up having as many haters and lovers as the 599 ,or maybe even more critique.
It's just too retro,to much along this stupid new trend of making new cars with old designs, especially when remaking great ones (Miura,GT40 etc) into their modern caricature.
The one above is just that,a caricature mix ,with poor aerodynamics, of great old ones....
I don't think any high performance carmaker can afford nowadays(with the extreme demands for performance, efficiency and safety) to design their cars with form more important then function anymore,so the better the cars get,the less stylish they get too.
Add to that the new Euro standards for pedestrian safety and the designers end up with very few options for their new projects.

Thats just it though. I really mean no offense here, but I think age really does matter in terms of what people like. Psychologically, people will tend to prefer what they grew up seeing for the rest of their lives. Nowadays, younger kids have a different sense of style when it comes to cars. I started with really paying attention to cars when I was pretty young, around 9 mor . At that point, the countach and testarossa had been around for a little while, and the countach is really what sparked my interest. But now that I'm 21, I must honestly say that the 360/430/599 are the cars of my dreams. I can appreciate the 348/355/Diablo (early models) and older exotics in their own right, but they just do not get my blood boiling like the newer models do and I just don't have the desire to really get in and drive them. Sure, I'd love to drive them once to get the experience, but I don't think I'd feel the need to ever drive them again. To me, the 599 (in pictures) is one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen, and from the moment I saw the first true pictures of it, I have absolutely loved it.

Ferrari is definitely in an interesting position. On one hand, they have to try to design cars so that their current customers will like the looks of the car so that they don't lose them in order to keep the company running in the short run. But on the other hand, the car needs to be new enough to inspire the younger generation (which usually does not have the means to buy a ferrari) to lust after Ferrari so that they can ensure that they will have customers after the current generation is no longer buying ferraris. This would be a very hard thing to do if they continued to produce cars that look all very similar. Granted Porsche has somehow been able to do that with the 911, but that is also in an entirely different price bracket (but it personally doesn't do anything for me anymore either... great car, but I always think "its just a 911" when I see one.)

I hope that makes sense, and in no way is it an attack on anyone... just some observations that I've made, with the help of some psychology classes I've taken.

The picture looks good, but it doesn't remind me of Ferrari when I first look at it. I first thought it was a blend between an Alfa 8C Competizione and a TVR. Would make a good looking car, but not one with a Ferrari badge even though I see some 250 GTO parts.

    Thanks for your comment.
    I agree about the TVR-looks.
However, IMO TVR is very '60's, as well as the 8C :)

WOAH!!! You are awesome with those renderings! I thought it was concept stuff put out by Ferrari! I love the different color schemes on the 599 you made. I'm still going through that thread, good stuff in there.

I agree, your designs show a front engine Ferrari doesn't have to be ugly or plain.

How about an interpretation of LFs most ground breaking design a early Boxer?
