Right now I'm using stock Pirellis Pzeros - nothing special about em. I guess I ll try to measure actual width of the tyre and compare it with the MPSS actual width to make myself calm )

    Sure.

Are you running Ferrari spec PZero or normal PZero?

The tread for the Ferrari spec 305/35R20 tyre should be 12.1" and the tread of the non-Ferrari spec 305/35R20 tyre should be 10.6".

I don't know exactly - I guess there are factory stock tyres installed...

So should I use MPSS in 295 or 315? Are you absolutely sure that 315 with negatively affect handling and electronic on-board systems? Cause according to my calculations 245/40R19 and 245/35R20 have the same outer diameter - and lot of Fchat members run that combo without any issues...

Changed to MPSS several months ago. 2008 with HGTE upgrade. Using 315 at the rear. Absolutely no issues other than better ride and grip compared to the original 305 Pirelli size and tire. No issues with ABS etc.

Whether or not it will affect the electronics, I'm not 100% sure. All I'm saying is, it might as you go from a 4% front to rear difference (OE) to a 8%. Issues often happen when changing more than 3-5%. Same reason why you can't run Speciale spec tyres on an Italia and so forth.

As for the positives of running the 315's over the 295, I can't really see any major ones. The only benefit I can really see, would be a higher degree of comfort due to a higher sidewall and larger diameter, and more rim protection. Generally speaking, if the 315 does not upset the electronics, I'm sure that the 315 will work much like the 295 in many ways as the difference in grip would be quite minute. The 315/35R20 and 255/35R20 combo is popular on the 599, so it's not that the 315 won't work per se. To some, the difference between 315 and 295 might be noticeable, to others, not so much. I don't think either would disappoint, but personally I'd choose the 295 when combined with your size fronts for peace of mind. Look at it this way. The 295 XL K1 can handle the power of the FF and the 315 K2 can handle the power of the F12. Both should have plenty of grip for the 599 GTB.
Also, if you look around on the board, most including me, seems to favor MPSS on our cars. I like it because I think it has more grip overall, is less noisy, rides better, works better in the wet and colder weather, and last longer.

All of this is of course somewhat subjective and depends on driving style etc. If it gives you peace of mind going with the 315, and it won't upset the electronics, it will work fine.

I can't tell you what is the best for you. What I'm trying to do, is showing you that there are alternatives that will work well.

Anyway thanks a lot for your helpful advice! I appreciate it much! Now I ll try to check which sizes are available on our market. The thing is that no one knows that tyres with K1 and K2 exist. All retailers are very surprised with such question!

K spec tyres are OE tyres for Ferrari - just like N spec is for Porsche or MO is for Mercedes. On occasion, they can also have an F or the word Ferrari on them.

    You're welcome.

FF is AWD, F12 has better traction than the 599 through the electronics and active diff.

When fatter is available, I'd never stick a narrow tire on any car. Especially a brute like the 599.

A little add on. I had a bit of a brain fart about the tyre size as I discussed 612 tyres at an earlier point. Somehow I remembered the OE rears as being 285/35R20, but they are of course 305/35R20. In that case, you will not have any issues running 315/35R20, and that is of course the most appropriate size to run.

True. But the 4wd system is off in race, CT off and CST off mode, and specified bead width does not tell much about the actual tread width.

So finally I got my new tyres, rims got refinished with OEM paint (Argento Nurburgring) and new TPMS sensors installed. No issues have been mentioned runnning this tyre combo (315/35R20 at the rear and 245/40 R19 at the front) - no ABS or other issues - everything works perfect! I'm enjoying fantastic grip! No wheelspin at all, even when starting from a standstill in RACE mode! Amazing tyres!

Terry, the after market BBS F1 wheel is 8.75 x20 front and 10.75 rear do you think the GTO size tyres would fit front and rear? Thanks

8.75" front wheel is too narrow for a 285 front tire.

Ok, I'm picking up my new to me 2007 599 on Friday of this week. The tires are original and we bought some Challenge style wheels so we want to replace the tires. The size we're looking for is 315/35r20. We can't find any Michelins in the US for them. Discount Tire doesn't have any even in their warehouses. Any ideas for the MPSS's? They have the Pirelli's but I would really like the Michelins. Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

I am new on the board. Live in Netherlands and have a black 599 since last August. Plan for new tires soonand in this thread gives good info, but still have a question. I have the normal 20" rims, and been reading " The 315/35R20 and 255/35R20 combo is popular on the 599 " but also that the front tires are max 245 on the standard rim. I would like the F12 set, so question: Is anyone running the F12 set with 255 on the front on standard (Not HGTE) rims? And do you like it? Any problems? Thanks for the help on this.

Adding to this long debate! I currently run OEM rims and tyres on my 07 599 but i am no fan of the PZero's the car came with, espescially the noise! So i am thinking to change them for Michelin Super sports using the 245 up front and 315 out back combo. Then i start to think is it not time for a rim change so i start looking at a set of BBS F1's which i will shod with the SS's, and to the point: if you were choosing to optimize the F1 / SS package what size rims would you choose and what size tyres would you opt to use. My criteria is just a nicer ride with lowest level of noise and best level of grip. This is a european summer tyre package

See if Continental Extreme Contact DWs are available in the 599 size. I use them on another high-powered car and they are excellent -- not race tires, but great in the rain, very quiet, and long-lasting. Frank

I believe the HGTE runs a little wider wheel and tire at the front so you might be able to get away with that- I think its 255 but not 100% sure right now. What I would do: talk with my mechanic as to what is the widest front he thinks I can get away with because the much wider fronts is a bit part of the GTO improvement and I would also see about those FI wheels if they have a little more offset to push them out just a little more than factory for looks. For road noise- I think he more tire you have = more road noise so I would be concerned going wider could make it louder. You could also look into adding some sound deadening material to reduce road noise. This likely won't be the most inexpensive endeavor.
