Just wondering what you think in real world terms....

Which is the better car ?

    The faster one ?

    The better built ?

And...(in never thought that they could even compare but...) the prettier ?

I always loved 911s,had one of every generation incl 997S and now I'm done with them.
I am bored to death with the styling, with so many older ones around (looking the same as new ones) it just doesn't feel or look "special" enough.
Will the 599 be faster or much better then 997TT?
Only time and side by side comparo by a reputable mag (like EVO) will show.
Menoy: as far as price, expect double the 997TT for the 599.

the 599, will probably be faster in some measures, but dont be surprised if to maybe 100 it is all 911 turbo. the traction advantage is incredible. As for quality, most likely the Porsche, but the ferrari uses nicer materials...I think a miuch better comparo would be with the LP640!

Thing is, in europe the 599 will go for ~200'000 eur, while the 911 TT for around 1350'000.
If you spec it (a TT) enough to make it viable (full leather, carbon etc etc), you end up close to 160'170ks.

I think on 0-160 kmh the 911 will have an edge, and probably in just any situation you can think of, except that theoretical free german Autobahn.

    That's what leaves me wondering.

On top of that, it's cheap to tune....eh :)

once you hear the prancing horse start up, you'll wonder why you wasted so much time on the VW 911! after that, there is nothing to compare.

The sound is definitly a point for the 599...

At best a 911 will have a primitive and gutural sound

In the end,it is a matter of what kind of driving experience a person is looking for,a slight edge in acceleration would be irrelevant in that case.
997 ,no matter how dynamically good, looks boring and needs a more radical makeover, they can't just keep reissuing the same styling forever.(Astons are beginning to have the same problem).
None of these cars could be really good daily drivers(BMWs,MBs and Audi are much better in that regard)so for "pleasure" and fun 599 will be a better choice for me.

even if you spend $200k on modifications, when an 86 328 rolls by, everyone immediately chases it down, rolls the windows and takes pics! not to mention the horrid Porsche resale value. think you can get any of that in a 997tt?

I will take the boring looks of a 997TT over the hideous, bloated, Toyota-lookalike 599 any day.

599 in all areas because not only will it be faster, it will also be more exlusive and perhaps the best reason of all it wont look like a base model car....in other words the 997T shares its basic style with the basic 911....

The 997 looks nice for a 911 but by the very nature and ethos of the model it doesn't look stunning and in yer face! I saw a beautiful 997 Carrera S with an Aerokit which was all Black including the wheels and looked divine. Even if a 997TT looked like that, I'd still have a 599 any day. The looks, the soul and the spirit of Ferrari or the clinical but soul free 997... no contest at all :D

It seems to me that the issue with the 997 TT is the outside is new (997 body) but the inside the engine is just a little different from the 996TT engine. No 3.8 and no real big changes. The 997 TT will look better than the 996TT, but compared to the 599 the 997 TT is not good looking enough.

Acceleration to any speed 100mph, 125mph, 140mph is important to compare but it is not everything in driving a sports car. For me it will be which car gives me the best driving feel, sound, and pleasure. Driving a sports is quickly and enjoyably is more important than is it the fastest to a certain speed.

So my thoughts are that the 599 will be more pleasurable for me to own and drive than the 997 TT. And as we all know EVO, R&T, other car mags etc.. will compare not only these two cars against each other but the other competitors as well. I will say it will make for nice reading but at the end of it all it is really down to what makes each of us happy.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

As great as the 599 appears i'm going for the German on this one. Seems like it would probably be the more sporting drive of the two. I could be very wrong though..

I'd rather my Porsche look like last years Porsche than my Ferrari look like last years Corvette, if you know what I mean.

Performance wise they are two totally different cars with two totally different purposes, so the best answer is 'both.'

I Agree. I still think the TT will outperform the 599 though. Time will tell when they test them together.

    I know the only one.

    Ten or twenty years later,
when people saw 911 TT, they say just 'old car'
    but 599gtb,
'Oh~ it's old ferrari. this is a real ferrari in contrast to recent ferrari'

Don't forget Porsche will be coming out with a 911 Turbo S with a turbo-charged 3.8 liter engine in the future.
