    Who gave it to him?

Anyone know the price for those in India? I believe I read that a F430 cost about 600.000 $ new.

That looks like a photoshop to me. Its a left hand drive car, which cannot be imported into India.

Yes LHDs can't be imported but Ratan Tata's California is LHD.
Some exceptions are there but Dhoni certainly isn't an exception when it comes to laws.

There hasn't been any official confirmation if anybody has gifted it to him. It's probably a rumor.

Price in India - price of car + 110% import duty on price of car :(.
Yes you can get F430 here by shelling around 600,000$ and then you get no service for it in India :p.

This year Ferrari is launching in India. Their demo LHD 458 is already doing rounds here being shown to prospective customers.
After they officially setup here costs may come down just a bit :p.

Maybe the owner will not actually keep the car in India, but in another (LHD) country?

Perhaps a way to avoid the verocious importtax, an added 110%

I bet that's a way for the politicians to show you that they can screw you twice. "One hundred percent tax! No, one hundre and TEN percent tax!" 100% wasn't enough, clearly...

Can't imagine driving a 599GTO anywhere in India- really bad roads, lots of cows and tuk tuks. If the road is OK then it's packed pull of cars driving 6 abreast.

Question: Is a GTO with just another color (flag) on the botom immediately a one-off?
    Or is there more?

Every GTO with a unique color combo is a one-off ?!?!?!?!

    I doubt it.

GTO India Edition is a misnomer. Had it been GTO India Edition, at least it would have been RHD.

Though GTO India plate is present, I guess it can be easily put up on customer's demand.
This car is owned by some Indian in UAE.

Here's a distinctive plate put on 1st 458 in India by Ferrari -
