Has anyone installed the new K40 RL360 radar detector in a GTO yet? I have been using the Escort 9500 in my cars, but I'm considering the new K40 for my inbound GTO. Thoughts?

I havent heard many good things about K40. Look at Escorts 9500ci, it is a similar system and comes with laser shifting. You already have a 9500i so you should be familiar with how it works. If your looking for something cheaper and more portable, look at Valentine 1.

I happen to be partial to V-1's and believe them to be offer the absolute best option in small, light, well designed radar systems. And, I've never had any difficulty "hard wiring" them into my Ferrari's, AMG's, and daily drivers--a simple, inexpensive process by my guy--always, through the headliner and without mess or issue.

One reason I like V1's is I've not found it necessary to require the unit to be invisible--because its not, resting on the upper window and offering a "heads up" view, as needed. If however that's what you're looking for, or have need to "locate/mark" various traps or areas that are always "on", and cost is not an issue, I'd look hard at the Escort system.

If your interested, you should check out and contact AI Design (www.aidesign.com) in Tuckahoe, NY. When it comes to discreet installations of any electronics, they're the go to guys. In fact if you look at their site, they recently did a radar install on a 599.

Speak with Todd or Matt, they'll take care of you.

We hardwire radar units into the rear view mirror. The most popular option seems to be Valentine.

I typically just have my Ferrari dealer (Wide World Ferrari) install the Escort 9500, but I will look into the Valentine 1 as well. I have a few Escorts laying around (not built in) so I can always decide after taking delivery of the GTO. I just heard that the boat will dock on December 2nd, so I hope to take delivery by around the 10th.

I think both of our GTO's are on the same boat. I was told mine will be docking in NJ on Dec. 1st./2nd. Don't believe each of our cars would be arriving seperately from the factory on different ships. You are a lucky guy twice over. First because you are about to receive your GTO. Secondly because you are basically a local delivery and will get to see your car a week to ten days earlier than I will. Enjoy in good health and hope to hear your comments soon. Welcome from Scuderia GTO!

Its about time you legitimized your founding membership! Seriously, it'll happen faster than you think but much slower than you'd like...Look forward to seeing a BIG BIG smile--esp the first time you "push" the button and the beast roars to life. Can't really think of a much better Ferrari moment.

As we say...Congrats, Enjoy, and remember the first few times you take to the roads...it ain't no 8 cylinder and docile is but an illusion--always warm the tires :)

Paul. I Need to ask you a question. Were any specifics mentioned as to a break in period for your GTO and what is the proper procedure for warming her up before pushing it? I've owned an 07 599 GTB. So I'm not totally unfamiliar with the basic power curve. My understanding is that the GTO is much more aggressive. So I plan on being real gentle with her until we get to know each other better. Its definately about time that I've made my ownership a reality. Really looking forward to that BIG smile and happy to be part of Scuderia GTO!
