    Fifth Gear Cancelled

Posted October 18th, 2009 at 19:09 GMT by Viper007Bond in Fifth Gear
Posting this from the Quebec airport, so this post will have to be brief.

Fifth Gear was canceled today — it will not be back according to The Daily Mail. While the show obviously wasn’t as entertaining to watch as Top Gear, it’s still a shame in my opinion.

However, Jonny Smith has been tweeting:

To answer all the tweets about Fifth Gear ending – I don’t know who the Daily Mail talked to, but nothing is official. TV is a fickle world.

FG is always compared to the big-budget epic movie monster that is TG. It can’t and won’t ever be TG. FG was always more, well, grass roots.

To be completely honest, it could be time for a fresh car TV show recipe. Right now I’m enjoying Industrial Junkie & motor journalism tho!

I don't get it didn't they just create an entire new set complete with their own track? I'm sure 5th gear had a huge following.......if it is gone it will be missed.

One of the worst car shows, and full of bias. And oh, Tiff's terrible accent. Sometimes, i can't understand a word he's saying. I've watched the show about 3-5 times, then gave up all together. TG rules!

I personally couldn't stand plato and Tiff. Tiff's annoying way of saying words just makes me angry lol. Yes they are good drivers but that doesn't mean they're the best for the show. VBH with her wide mouth and stupid squeals annoyed me about as much.

The only one who was pretty ok was the fat man whose name I forgotten.

Just to see how bad Tiffs presenting actually is, go on youtube and search '5th gear mclaren enzo'. 'Then you see Start...then you see a key...wubwubwubwubwubwubwubwub' AAAGH!

The fat mans name you are looking for is Tom Ford. With regards to Jason Plato and Tiff, i've always liked Plato, for a while he was the only presenter on 5th gear that I actually liked and he isn't even.... really a TV presenter (he's a racing driver, and a pretty good one at that). I didn't like Tiff Needel either i thought he was VASTLY overrated but now i've changed my mind and he's a much better driver than he is a presenter IMO and i enjoy the head to heads Jason and Tiff do. While VBH is IMO quite good looking she is also and still is VASTLY overrated and thinks to much of her self for me.

Then theres Johnny Smith, who i like actually, he always gives helpful advice on older cars to buy and seems to know what he's talking about. Just with he did more road tests rather than consumer advice, because he's one of the best presenters 5th have.

Yeah seen that video, thought the review was quite good though but I agree about his presenting. I don't like the way he emphasises EVERY word and the odd hand movements he does.

It was a good show to watch in the TG off-season. I'll miss it, even though the most recent seasons have been kinda lame with a bunch of senseless stunts and celebrity guests.

I did not know that their ratings were as low as they were so I guess it does make sense that the show got the axe.

However, after watching it since the beginning I thought that they FINALLY got it together and made a fairly solid show in the last two series. It wasn't completely original in some of their challenges and at times boring, but augh I thought it had promise now. Oh well.

Hopefully a new show will take it's place and be a fill in for when Top Gear isn't on the air.
