I also posted this thread on the 360 board--As the title says, for those who had the opportunity of driving the manual version of both these cars, which one was most satisfying, easier to shift like butter?

Hi John. I have a 1998 F355 6-speed. I've had the opportunity to drive a number of 360 with the manual transmission as well.

The 360 gearbox is much easier to work with than the F355's (and I've driven a number of those too!) The 360's gearbox seems work even when it's cold, while the F355's feel rather stubborn (esp. going into 2nd) in the morning. Clutch effort appears to be slightly lighter in the newer car.

Even when warm, the 360's gearbox feels much more modern than its predecessor.

That said, I don't dislike the F355's gearbox. The shifts are positive, the gates unambiguous, and every action is as satisfying as closing a rifle bolt ... but it ain't what I'd call "butter smooth".

I drove my dad's 360 6 speed. It has the smoothest shifting gearbox I have ever used. Really impressive.

I agree, and personally, I like the character of the 355 box, with it's balky second gear when cold. It's got a bit of the old feel of say a 512BB, but it warms up to being easy and quick. It adds a little more flavor to the drive, feels more "special" to me.

I drive both the 355 and 360 regular as well as the f430. I prefer the 360 manual change out of the 355 and 360.
