I dont see manual 599's often, and this one looks sharp. Especially like the price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-FIORANO-V12-6-SPEED-MANUAL-Certfied-Pre-Owned-/180643215933?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2a0f2cba3d
Bill- Very nice 07 with CCMs and lots of CF, even if the Crema interior (pretty sure it is Crema, looks too light for Beige, but I could be wrong) is work to keep clean. The three pedal cars are scarce and the dealers have had trouble moving them, so this might be a chance for a bargain if you like the manual shifter. Taz Terry Phillips
Nice car! I have never seen what look to be HGTE set patterns on a 07. Very cool if I am seeing it correctly.
Nice looking 2007 599 GTB Fiorano. Colors = red/tan. VIN = ZFFFC60AX70153378. Here's a pic of that interior with a shifter. Nice. The camera has over-exposed the pictures some. The red/tan color combo looks almost Rosso Dino and Crema in the pics. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I prefer a manual. I've heard rumors of driveability problems. Can anyone with experience driving a 599 or 612 with a manual expound on this?
Bill, yes, the new cars are programmed for flippers. Big whoop. On the street, anybody who comes anywhere close to getting 8/10s of the programmed performance will end up in jail. I suspect the feedback about the stick cars comes from those who are not used to a "old-school" clutch and gates, e.g., a 550. Interestingly enough, when I did the Ferrari Driving School in the F430, the skid pad car was a stick. It turns out that breaking the rear end loose was too hard to do with flippers. Dale
Bill, 2LEMANS on this site bought one a few weeks on. Look for (599 2007 GTB arriving soon). He mentions his first drive but nothing in depth.
The early 612 has the same engine, gearbox and manual shifter as the 575M and this shifter is very similar (virtually identical) to the one in the 550, so plenty of units to get it right. The 599 has a completely new transmission and a new dual plate clutch and, of necessity, a new three pedal set-up and shifter. Very few three pedal 599s were built. Any 612 manual experience is not translatable to the 599. When Ferrari adapted the 599 dual plate clutch and new transmission case to the 612 OTO, they discontinued the three pedal option. Too much trouble to develop for what was guaranteed to be minimal demand. I would like to hear from someone who has lived with a three pedal 599, too. All we have gotten so far is third hand innuendo or reports from one-time drives. One-time drives do not allow enough learning time for an accurate assessment. Taz Terry Phillips
Haven't there been a number of posts on here by people intending to buy a manual 599? Has anyone actually followed through?
I drove one that was previously owned and ordered by a well know ferrari owner here in UT. He is old school and really wanted the 6 speed. He didn't like it. Had it back with factory tech's at least once and they could make it feel right. It certainly wasn't to my liking either. Lack of skill? Maybe but I really wanted to like it. Something about the clutch didn't feel right. Nothing like the 550,575 or 612 manuals I had driven. I still think a 599 manual would be great...just drive it before you buy it. ccr
Well hopefully I can put you all at ease.. I am the new owner of this 07 Rossa Scuderia 599 after looking for a 6 sp car for over 2 years.. got close on a couple of others but there were stories etc on each.. this one was the nicest I saw and it is now here in CT. (Joe C any comments?) I have lowered it, powder coated the wheels added spacers to fill out the wells and the new exhaust and wrapping the roof/mirrors are underway as I write this.. I am also installing the black challenge grill.. SO, the big question is how does the 6 sp drive.. here are my impressions. I LOVE IT. PERIOD. First gear is pretty much useless unless you are sitting in traffic or starting up a hill or other incline. Otherwise I start it in 2nd.. the car doesnt bog down at all and the shifts to 3/4 etc are very smooth. Same with downshifting.. very smooth but dont go into 1st. Its an interesting feeling if you do get on it in 1st and shift up to 2nd.. the shifter really bangs into 2nd as if it is willing itself to get into gear.. and then 2/3 transition is slightly less but still aching to get into gear. My F430 6sp is a COMPLETELY different experience.. the 599 V12 is obviously too much for the 1st gear ratio change to 2nd.. I did lots of research and asked previous owners of 6sp 599s all the questions I had regarding experience.. For those die hards who need to have a 6sp 599 i HIGHLY recommend this car.. more pics to come when it is finished. Don't know about the 599 manual but you are dealing with a great group of people at Fort lauderdale Ferrari - would not doubt anything they tell you - have spent some money there with my cars and they were nothing but the best
Justin- Not sure it will be a classic, but it will sure be rare. There are only a few of them. Craig's comments are really useful. 1st gear in a 599 is 3.15 to one and with the 4.18 rear end, gives an overall ratio of 13.17. A Z06 Corvette, with less hp and torque, has an overall ratio in 1st of 9.072, which is about the same as the 599 in second (9.114). The Corvette does weigh about 700 lbs less, but still.... Yeah, it says tan in the ad, but in most of the pictures it looks cream. I'd love to be certain for my records. Only 20 manuals in the states.
Seems like the F1 cars are for more "casual" owners (no insult intended) and the 6 speed are for car people who enjoy the driving experience and how engaging it can be. I know that some F1 owners may be insulted by this but 10 years from now when some previous owners are looking to get back into a 599 after owning one previous something tells me they will be looking for the much rarer 6 speed. A driver likes to drive, not be driven.
So here is a little more data and some final pics of my "599 Project". After almost 2k miles of driving in 3 weeks, I can honestly say this car is one of my all time favorites.. and I have a few cars.. The shifting has become easier because I am really used to the clutch/first gear ratio. If I want to get on the power quickly I will always start it in 2nd.. but a casual start or a start on any incline is always in 1st. If you feather it from 1st to 2nd, it is very smooth. If you wind it up in 1st (over 4k rpm) you will THUNK it into 2nd. Thunk being the key sound it will make as the car desperately wants a higher gear.. Anyone interested in a 6sp GT car, the 599 is a GREAT example. Now for the latest and final mods.. I wanted a GTO but could not do the paddles.. Soooooo, I have painted the roof/mirrors flat black (done by the best shop in the NE area - one who does all the Ferrari work here), installed a Challenge grill, powdercoated the Ferrari and Cavalino and the rear diffuser.. I have lowered the car and added 25mm wheel spacers in the rear/15mm in front and now the 599 has bypass Tubi and has been remapped.. the car sounds as it should now. I will try and post a you tube video of the sound.. WOW. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That car looks fabulous without the crests. When you tick for crests, you pay Ferrari for the right to advertise for them.
I must say, this is one of the nicest 599's i have ever seen... I went on a run with Craig last week and his new ride is a thing of beauty!!!
