Can anyone contribute to their experinece or knowledge of the conventional 6-speed to the new F-1 transmissions. I am shopping for either a late moeel 2001 550 or a 2002 575m. If I choose to go with a 575 I have the option of a F1 shift. My friend feels the F-1 will be a maintenance nightmare in the future due to the electronics. I welcome any input. Thanks a lot gary
Check out this one. Great car at a great price. http://www.ferrariads.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi?search_and_display_db_button=on&db_id=1303&query=retrieval
I would stay away if cost is an issuefom the F1 system. They will develpoe problems in the future and many (around here anyway) already have problems. They also seem to go through clutches much faster then a 6 speed car. There is also the problem of driving the car in heavy stop and go traffic. This is were the F1 cars really show there faults. If you like to play michel shui then get the F1 If you want to really drive then get the 6 speed.
I am excited. This nest week my friend is bringing out his 90 Testarossa and his F40 for me to drive. He keeps pumping up his F40 telling me it is like strapping a rocket to my ass but it is not for me for weekend driving. Then we are going to drive a 550 with a 6 speed. I drove a 360 F1 recently and it shifted horribly in taffic and in 1st. The dealer assured me it was a clutch problem only on that one. My friend is very anti electronic and is encouraging me to also consider older cars such as a 365 daytona. thanka again gary
Gary, I have not checked the other areas but you might want to post this quesgtion in the general discussion area. It might get more visibility and more feedback there.
But people will also get p.o.ed at the sight of another F1 vs. 6speed thread. They can be rather touchy! I think the general feeling is that F1s will be more expensive down the road to fiddle with.
I recently purchased a 360F1 and rationalized this because I live in LA where I'd be lucky to get the car out of 2nd. gear during weekdays...Traffic is absolutely insane! Well, as this is truly my occasional ride the 6sp. manual would have definately made me happier especially on my weekends up PCH and into the canyons.
