Ferrari today announced that they will produce 60 different one-offs, based on the 612 Scaglietti, to celebrate their 60th anniversary. Each one will carry a badge of the Ferrari 60 Relay, that starts today in Abu Dhabi.

It's not a special 'collectors' car - it's just a standard 612 with a fancy paint job, a trick roof, and a cheap plaque. No preformance upgrade over standard. Pity. Missed opportunity. Anyone that buys this car will take a bath on residuals almost as huge as any other 612 owner.

I wonder whether the roof will be seen again on a facelifted 612.

Special roof in this case means a glass roof where you can dial up/down the amount of light let through from lots (i.e. see through) to none (i.e. black). It's a still a fixed roof - i.e. it isn't a convertible or anything.

italiaspeed.com has the info and pics that are on the owners' site

"It's not a special 'collectors' car"

Yes and no - I wouldn't buy one if I were concerned about the resale value - and I, too, wish that the car had performance upgrades - but it's a limited edition car and I like the roof. It will be interesting to see what paint combinations will be offered. Heck, I like the car, from what little I've seen.

Sorry, not sure what your saying. Do you mean the roof?
The roof of this 612 is from glass. It will color with the sunset.

From www.italiaspeed.com and, presumably, the factory press release:

The interior appointments will feature sophisticated colour combinations and a stunning new-generation electrochromic glass roof, itself a major innovation. The degree of opacity of the roof, in fact, can be adjusted to suit the occupants' requirements

Didn't Peter Kalikow's 612 Kappa also have that roof?

Those look like the same colors offered on the special final Schumacher edition of the 456, at the end of production.

Any word on the price on those cars? And if any are coming to the US?

I believe the Kalikow 612 had solar panels to power the interior fans when the car was off and sitting in the sun. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Not sure but here is a pic I took of it. It does look like solar panels in the middle section of the roof.

Kalikow's roof glass is white when it is opaque??...the new 612's glass is black when opaque, a better look in my opinion.

It's a 3M glass. Guys on eBay/on-line sell small panels of it to black out your license plate while parked at car shows (or when in the presence of traffic cameras).

Did anyone notice the different silver-ish color on bonnet, pillars and also on both sides of the car (similar to Nasharty's GP Special Edition, but on this car the color seems to be fading away towards the front wheel).
Or maybe it is just the light?

^The two tone color is part of what makes it the "special edition."

Not a collector's edition? There are only 15 coming to North America. That is as rare an edition Ferrari has ever made.

I do agree though about the performance upgrade.............can you imagine the appeal that this car would have if it had the 599 motor in it?

And get this guys.................for the first time in Ferrari's history, the car is equipped with cruise control!

I have been told the price is 30% higher than the regular car which would mean close to $400,000 fully loaded. The interior is serious upgrade and virtually hand made. There is to be an enlarged screen display on the dash for nav and other read outs. The trunk is fully lined in leather.Dealers have much more complete info than has been posted by Ferrari on the internet. With so few coming to the US I would expect them to go fast. For the person who wants and can afford this type of car (big Ferrari, 2+2 seating, limited edition, etc) I doubt the fact that it is no faster than the regular 612S is going to make any difference. These cars tend to be driven almost every day, not just on nice weekends or track days.

MSRP is supposed to be about 40% higher than a regular 612.

The interior will have a higher quality leather. Just looking at the pictures posted above, the interior is stunning!

The cruise control is one, they are also going to have a cup holder for the first time. the whole interior is essentially a special feature. the pattern on the door and the seat inserts is not offered exceprt here, and the stitching is the same story. the rear seats should have a center console of sorts unlike the standard 612.

the extra money for two of Ferrari's firsts may be worth it down the road?
