http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/21/fashion/21HAIR.html Ok Play-azzz, so it's for a woman not a man. But, still it can be expensive. I know NY is quite (or can be) a bit more expensive here in L.A.. What I would like to know is how much have you ever spent on a hair cut. And does it matter to you how good your hair looks? Do you go to your stylist because of your hair? ( I have a lot of cowlicks and it's hard to get right) Or is it because you like the treatment you get there (Martini or glass of red wine while they snip away at "no charge"). Or maybe you like to be able to say you get your hair cut at an expensive "in the know" salon? FWIW the most I've spent out here is $50 ($60 including 20% tip). That was just for a cut. I don't do any color etc... It wasn't any better than the $35 I normally get. I will say that I'm very particular on my hair cut though. Maybe I've just been lucky to get someone who's good and doesn't charge a lot. Also, professional manicures or do your own?
My most expensive hair cut: I produced the telecast of a concert for a famous pop singer in Miami a little while ago. The hair stylist cut my hair and the leading lady's hair. The production paid the stylist $10,000. That's ten thousand American dollars.
I pay $15 all in. Same guy I've been going to for 26 years. Can't say it's the best haircut in town, but it ain't bad (or so I've been told). I don't get an herbal tea or a scalp massage for the 15 bucks and I have to take shower when I get home to make sure I get all the micro hair particles off me, but $600 - $10,000 is a little nuts in my book. ;-)
ANDREA IS A RETIRED HAIR STYLIST..SHE CUTS MY HAIR FOR FREE,,,BUT HAS CARD BLANCHE OVER THE AMEX GOLD CARD
Did they give a cost breakdown on how much was yours and how much was hers? Was the labor rate figured per strand? This blows my mind... Let me know the next time you need a haircut, I'll grab the FlowBee and head on over...
I guarantee that Emil does. I'd also bet that some of them had "suck cuts" when they were kids. Now fess up if you did....
Id guess most of the EC gang have seen those Flowbee infomercials at some point. Like Eric, Ive been going to the same small-town barber for the past 25 years... $15 includes a percussive neck massage. Mines a real car guy too! He got a 67 Stang in show condition
My most expensive? about $30 a couple of years ago at a stylist shop near willowbrook. Now? $20 from a stylist that does work-at-home cuts part time & shares her homemade Italian cookies & Italian tomatoe gravy (no, they don't call it sauce) with all her customers. cheapest? In Galloway Township (near Gus) there was a barber on Rt 30 with nothing more than a hut, brass sinks, old style chairs, the floor boards creaked when you walked in and he must have been 85. His hands trembled when he cut, but he did a good job. Price was $2 normal hair, $7 long hair. I had to go there at least once to check it out after passing it for 3 years. He had straight razors & strops for a shave, but I was never that brave. His place is gone now. Never been flow-bee'd
$5 under the subway station in Flushing...haircut plus something extra...j/k Vidal Sasson charges about $150 (including tip), but lately I've been going to John Allan's: you pay $750 for the year and it's unlimited haircut, manicure and shoe shine. In addition, free music, free beer, free pool table, cigar room, etc. Here's the best part: all the stylists are "hot" chicks!!! You can't bring your wife or girlfriend, cause they have a "gentlemen only" policy.
Was paying $100 now $15. Like Pchop's place as it is unlimited and manicures. What are you tipping there?
I dated a girl during the summer (she was at the 6speedonline show in Mahwah w/ me) who would get a $600-800 hair cut every couple months-- too much if you ask me..
Yes, do tell Oh, btw: I assume we are not talking about those off-beat places that cut hair below the belt, right? If not, $600 for a haircut is insane....unless I'm holding the siccors.
I guess the logic works for girls the same way it works for us paying thousands of $$$$$ to service and drive what in the end is just a car. We do it because to us the enjoyment is worth the expense just as to them the haricut is worth the $600.
