612 Cat Delete

Has anyone here deleted the primary cats from the centre exhaust piping (not the pre-cats in the headers) from their 612 or have a clip of a 612 with the primary cats deleted?

Did you notice any performance benefit? Any improvement in exhaust volume and sound? Any unpleasantness like resonance/drone? Any unpleasant smells?

Alternatively are a pair of 100/200 cell cats the better way to go or is the cell count of the pre-cats enough to maintain good sound and smell? Should I consider an X pipe instead for sound at the expense of power? My wife has requested more exhaust volume and it would be a bonus if I could get more of the traditional V12 scream without changing out headers.
