From a cold start I can hear a chirp that sounds like a pully. Something to ignore or pay attention to? Goes away very quickly.

I've never heard anything like that on my car. It sounds like it could be something that's not adequately lubricated, maybe?

I definitely wouldn't ignore it. Hopefully someone here knows what it is. Otherwise I would take it to a specialist.

Sounds like a slipping belt, but worth checking out. I had a “chirping” noise for a while, and it was one of the cam belt drive pulley bearings. Quite a common thing to fail on these engines.

You could confirm that it’s a slipping belt on the steering pump side (there are 2 auxiliary belts) by turning the steering upon startup. The demand on the steering pump will cause the belt to squeal more if that’s what you’re experiencing.

Agree with brogenville. Serpentine belt or idler pulley. Nothing urgent, can be replaced at next service.

I get the same squeaky belt noise on my 07 612 for a few seconds on cold start also. Goes away quickly. Engine runs well otherwise. I will have it checked out when the car gets it coming out of winter hibernation service in the next few months. I’ll post what I find out.

My 612 makes a belt squeal on cold startup as well. It's going in for service on Wednesday, and they'll take a look at it.

How difficult is it to change the bearings? Something left to others difficult or straightforward enough?

Which bearing? (There are a multitude).

If the noise goes away after the car warms up, that sounds a lot like a belt slipping. I would start by just replacing the two auxiliary belts, both of which are inexpensive.
