Has anyone done a horsepower upgrade on their 612? I love my 612, but would love to have a bit more horsepower...at least 600. Any suggestions that work and don't call for massive changes?

It's called an FF, lol. Not sure how much you can squeeze out of a NA engine without significant mods. Vivid sells one but it's like 20hp which to me would be completely unnoticable

Eventually there will be a thread wherein someone commissions a tuner to add twin turbos their 612. It's the only way to remain competitive without (seriously) blowing the bank.

The 612 and Superamerica already have been hot rodded to take them from the 515 hp of the 575M (612 essentially the same engine as the 575M) to 540 hp. Some headers might improve on that slightly, but not sure anybody makes them.

A 550 owner has had his block redone to provide 6 liters of displacement, but that is a huge undertaking. He will probably get 580-600 hp out of her with other mods.

Thanks for the tips. I had already upgraded to a quicksilver titanium exhaust system. Yesterday my mechanic told me he could do an ECU upgrade that would give me 51 more HP and about 40 ft lb of torque...price wasn't bad, but would be if it didn't give that type of return

Not a chance you get 50 more hp from the ECU...

Agreed, especially when the 612 engine is already in a pretty high state of tune for an engine without VVT.

I think overall with sports cats, center pipes, back boxes, ECU tune/remap & a sports air filter, you would probably not get more than 25-35 bhp.

Ask your mechanic if it's ok if you baseline the car before and after at an independent dyno shop(the average number of 10-15 pulls on a hot engine). Find a reputable shop for this with a Mustang dyno, they are brutally honest dynos. If he stand behind his work, he should be ok with it. Also, find out over how broad a rev range the power bump will be. If it's only at a narrow 500-1000 rpm bump, what's the point? And lastly, make sure that he knows that the tune will work and deliver the power on a nice summers day with normal available fuel, i.e, 92-93 oct. AKI, and not knock.

Ask him what the compensation will be if he does not deliver - and have him put it in writing...

There are simply too many out there making wild bogus claims.

    Thread on this?

I remember a guy by the name of harmony autosport converted his 550 to ITB, changed headers to 6-1 and a lot of other stuff years ago and he easily shot over the 600 mark.

Company went out of business though, and never heard anything of the car since...

Too bad Supersprint put an X pipe in there. Cost them some hp and torque they would not have lost with straight pipes.

He guys, we had a 612/2004 Standard car on the dyno last year and result was 495bhp. Which we found not too bad for "F Factory" power descriptions.
Car pulls hard and after 30.000kms in one I do not see a point to upgrade. Problem on very fast Autobahn stages is not power but weight.
