Does anyone know the changes made to the 575 engine to get the additional hp in the Superamerica and 612? I'm wondering about a upgrade to the 575...maybe all it would take is new ECUs?
    thanks

I read that the 599 engine is derived from Enzo and not the 575. This means that it uses the variable valve timing and different inlet geometry of the Enzo.
So no, not a simple upgrade path,
    Sorry,

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the 599 since your title says 612 hp, now I realize you mean the 612 car!
So to answer you question, the inlet of the 575 has been modified for the SuperAmerica as follows:

"The Superamerica's engine has been boosted to deliver 540 hp at 7250 rpm (25 hp more than the 575M Maranello). This extra power was achieved by the use of new higher intake tracts, an improved flow coefficient thanks to the optimization of the fluid-dynamic characteristics of the cylinder head inlet ducts and inlet manifold. "

Doesnt tell you much, eh? By optimization they could mean good old "porting" to improve the flow or changing the geometry and layout or maybe they are inducing "swirl" . They aint telling.

    Ron

From what I gather it is the manifold etc only. The head porting is hand finished already. Apparently the heads are capable of flowing 650hp stock....

    Dear Stephen,
When you say the heads are capable of flowing 650hp does this apply generically to the 550 too? Do you know the corresponding flow number in cfm?
    Regards,
    Ron

I was referring to the 550, don't have the flowbench results at hand.
